Portland police have identified the victim as Gigi Pierce, a 28-year-old transgender woman from Boise, Idaho. Investigators believe Pierce was shot during an altercation between her and the suspect, 33-year-old Sophia Adler, at about 11:00 PM Monday on Southwest 2nd Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found Pierce lying on the sidewalk. Though the police provided emergency first aid, Pierce died at the scene. Adler, who did not flee from the scene, was taken to the Multnomah County Jail and was charged with murder.
"Based on information learned at this time does not suggest this is a bias or hate related crime," said Sgt. Chris Burley, A spokesperson for the Portland police department.
There are no further details regarding the investigation at this time.
The Portland police are asking anyone who has information, including video surveillance, to contact Det. Vincent Cui at (503) 823-0449 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Peirce is the 11th transgender person to be murdered in 2018.
Rest in Power Gigi Pierce!
