A young man was murdered by an illegal alien in Texas because our immigration system is so screwed up.

My friend Chip Roy, who is running for Congress in the district where this happened, wants everyone to know about this. He is right. It is outrageous and highlights just how our immigration system is screwed up.

This was a hispanic male American citizen who was murdered by an illegal alien who 1) came here illegally, 2) was employed illegally, 3) using fraudulent documentation, and 4) was stopped for DUI / assault - and was put on probation, then 5) violated probation and was put on voluntary departure, 6) before departing (if he ever was actually leaving) was stopped for a traffic stop and let go, and then 7) committed the murder... and when it was going to be discovered, burned the building in which the citizen's body was found.

Why has Chip Roy not done videos of the 60 or so people murdered in his district this year alone? Could it be that Roy thinks this womans tragedy will help politically? now when did we see that before

Fixing immigration requires a massive amount of political willpower, and the understanding that no one is going to get everything that they want...

Unfortunately, both sides seem content to demand the absurd (abolish ICE, Trump's wall - just to start) rather than putting any effort into actually solving the problem.

If we were honest about it, a statutory clarification of the public-charge rule (one penny of state or federal aid - cash or noncash - and your visa is cancelled) pretty much covers the one-and-only limit we need on legal immigration when combined with a background check...

Once you have that & a reasoanble system to prevent anyone who is unauthorized from ever getting a job (Mandatory E-verify for everyone including contractors, backed by IRS audits of employers... And a ban on cash payroll...), illegal immigration will be a non-issue...

And some statutory tweaks to asylum eligibility 'fix' that issue...

Everything else (wall, for example) can be traded away to the Dems (along with substantial increases in legal immigration, under the above 'not a public charge or criminal, welcome to the USA' rule) to get their buy-in on the above critical points...

But that would require people to want to make a deal... Right now no one does...

Liberals love everyone but you. They'll talk about how much they love Hispanic Americans... Until they're killed by an illegal alien.

Whatever happened to innocent till proven guilty? You spent a good portion of the last month reminding us of this. But as soon as it suits your narrative you throw that premise out the window

Our current policies for dealing with illegal immigrants are not in the interest of anybody who believes in law and order. It is clear that the Democratic Party supports blanket amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants (regardless of criminal behavior). It is also clear that the Democratic Party wants to open the borders to even more illegal immigrants. There are legitimate arguments to be made for increasing the levels of legal immigration, especially if it is tied to a merit system that focuses on admitting immigrants who can make a productive contribution to our economy. Our nation does have a history of admitting multitudes of immigrants who have become productive citizens. But this history is based on legal immigration via an orderly process of lawful entry, which is far different than the uncontrolled illegal immigration via our southern border.
