Ruth Marcus of the Washington Post says the GOP is upending tradition in Washington if they get rid of the filibuster, but she too was fine when Harry Reid did it.
The failure rate of Democratic nominees to federal trial courts since 1981 has been almost twice as high as the Republican failure rate: 14 percent versus 7 percent. There is also a gap among appeals court nominees: 23 percent to 19 percent.
The gap between the parties would be even larger if Democrats hadn’t eliminated the filibuster on lower-court nominees in 2013, allowing Barack Obama finally to fill more judgeships. Even so, Trump has inherited a huge number of vacancies.
His data ignores that the reason the Democrat failure rate is so high is that after they scuttled the filibuster, the GOP refused to allow any further confirmations of judges once they took back the Senate to stop the rush.
The talking heads in the media are all fine with Democrats changing rules to suit liberal needs, but cry foul when the GOP does it.
This is why the GOP must scrap the judicial filibuster now. The Democrats will otherwise know that they can change the rules whenever they want to suit their needs assured the GOP never will. The GOP must prove they have the guts to play hardball like the Democrats.
Democrats and the media are now engaged in blatant character assassination of Neil Gorsuch to destroy the man’s reputation. They cannot be rewarded. They must be stopped. And the only way to stop them is to end the filibuster now.
