The Democrats Have a Georgia Problem

They are pouring money and resources into flipping the state, but their standard bearer candidate won't moderate.

I give Stacey Abrams some credit. The Democrats' gubernatorial nominee in Georgia is very openly and unapologetically liberal. She is convinced that instead of running to the center as a moderate, she should stay on the left side and galvanize progressive voters. It is helping her with fundraising from leftwing interest groups. The problem is that this tactic takes resources away from other states while increasing the odds that she loses in November.

In just the last week, Abrams has again called for the removal of Confederate monuments, something even most Democrats in the state oppose. She is sticking by her plans to tear down Stone Mountain (a very popular confederate monument), or at least add to it. She has gone on record wanting to give illegal aliens state scholarships in the so-called HOPE Scholarship program that is already underfunded. She has attacked police. And she's standing with Linda Sarsour, declaring herself proud to do so.

The Sarsour one is the latest problem. A boy from Georgia has been found dead in New Mexico at what increasingly looks like a terrorist training camp. The boy's father is the son of a radical imam in New York who just so happens to be tied to Sarsour as well. It may be a few degrees of separation from Abrams, but Republicans are amplifying the connections to highlight how radical Abrams is.

Abrams is now also out calling for the end to a state scholarship program that allows minority children into private schools and she's beginning to hint at tax increases to fund her proposals.

She is very honest and that honesty will probably sabotage her. She really believes her proposals will be good for Georgia and has no intention of moderating them. Her conviction is commendable. It also is going to do her in while pulling progressive money into Georgia away from other states.

Erick Erickson keeps clinging to his old pre-conceived notions ... a liberal Black woman will ALWAYS lose statewide elections in Georgia.

He apparently thinks it does not matter how obnoxious her white conservative opponent is.

He also seems to think the demographic and cultural transformation brought by the rapid growth of the Atlanta metro area does not matter at all.

Finally, he apparently thinks the unpopularity of Trump and his boorish tactics won't affect like-minded politicians such as Brian Kemp.

Why is there a terrorist training camp in New Mexico?

Whether you agree with her or not isn't it refreshing to see a politician who is actually sticking to their values. Cagle lost because he was found out, Kemp could very well follow suit if he starts making promises just to win votes, in particular if he starts to drift to centre field.

If she drives up the black vote enough...

I just am now seeing this training camp on FOX. I've lived through the 60's, 70's and just flat-out don't remember the HATRED that is so prevalent as today, and wasn't that supposed to be time of racism, VN war, and other stuff? It just doesn't seem that there was so many that want to tear this country apart!
