Senator Collins Has Treated the Senate As Our Founders Designed It

She has been thoughtful, deliberative, and has searched for truth. She is owed some thanks for respecting the process.

Senator Susan Collins has gotten more protestor fury than the other Republicans. Protestors have sent coat hangers to her office. They've threatened to spit on her food at restaurants and followed her around. She has been generally harassed by the left while seeking to find answers.

Collins wanted the FBI delay for those answers. She reviewed the report. She found it thorough. We know from the Wall Street Journal today that one of the big pieces of information was the pressure campaign Leland Keyser faced. I am sure Senator Collins could relate.

She deserves our thanks for taking the time to treat the Senate as our founders wanted -- the greatest deliberative body in the world. She has been thoughtful and I appreciate her vote for cloture. I realize that does not mean she will vote for Kavanaugh, but I hope she will do so now that she has seen the FBI report.

First principles matter and the principles of presuming innocence and putting the burden on accusers should be two of the very first principles a Senator should honor. I would encourage each of you to encourage Senator Collins to vote for Brett Kavanaugh and to also thank her for being deliberative, thoughtful, and moving this nomination along into its final hours.

I cannot stress enough how much invective, hate, and rage she has experienced. She has earned some kind thank you's.

Senator Collins gave a great speech on Senate floor. It was based on logical reasoning grounded in facts. She pointed out that Dr. Ford’s testimony is entirely uncorroborated, without personally attacking her (which would not have achieved anything). She condemned whoever linked the letter from Dr. Ford to the press, but stated that she didn’t think Senator Feinstein was responsible. Senator Collins made clear her support for the precedence of “Roe versus Wade” and “Gay Marriage,” which set her apart from many Kavanaugh supporters. But she also defended the sterling judicial record of Judge Kavanaugh and his respect for precedent and fair judicial rulings. It was one of the most honest speeches I have ever heard on the Senate floor. It was more like Joe Friday’s “Just the facts,” then the political theater of many Senate speeches. As Erick said, Senator Collins did a great job in fulfilling the “Advise and Consent” rule of the US Senate.

She has truly taken protesters head on. But what I'm concerned about is what I heard that Liberal big money attempting to bribe 1-million dollars for her 'no' vote. Tell me it ain't so!!!!

I'm hearing she's a no, so apparently she didn't care about due process, first principles, etc.
