The Russians launched a military grade chemical attack in a major British city to kill two. They have potentially exposed hundreds of others to a lethal nerve agent. American Secretary of State Rex Tillerson acknowledges that the Russians were behind it. But the White House will not go so far.
Now is the time for American leadership. This President has shown his willingness to take on Russia, including arming the Ukrainian people. But, I suspect because of fatigue within the White House over the Russian-election narrative, the Administration frequently vacillates in its response to Russian aggression.
I do not think this Administration vacillates on Russia so badly because it is secretly pro-Russian. I think the Administration gets tired of having to constantly deal with the "Russians stole the election" storyline that comes up anytime the President even mentions Russia. Anything and everything this Administration does gets a media diatribe on Russia, so they get into bunker mode and refuse to act.
Now, however, is the time to act. A major American ally has experienced a chemical attack at the hands of Russians. The world is watching for American leadership. The world needs President Trump to be clear that this behavior will not be tolerated and is unacceptable. Donald Trump needs to join Theresa May and other western powers in punishing the Russians for their actions and he needs to do it today.
