Mitt Romney Will Announce His Senate Bid Tomorrow

The media is going to use Romney's entry as a way to fuel the "GOP Civil War" narrative.

UPDATE: Given the school shooting in Florida, I'm told the Romney team is going to delay the announcement.

There is only going to be marginal opposition to Romney. It looks like he is set for an easy walk into the Senate fro Utah. Whether he intends it or not, the media is going to do what they can to structure a Romney v. Trump situation. I hope Mitt Romney's advisors have figured out a way to help him navigate that and handle it.

It seems pretty clear to me that an obvious media and Democrat strategy is going to be to find issues where there is separate between Romney's views and Trump's views, then rush out to other Republicans to demand to know if they are with Team Mitt or Team Don. The whole process will be designed to fuel the "GOP Civil War" narrative the media has been pushing. It'll also be used to cause problems for Republicans in primaries where Trump support is most intense.

Surely the Romney Team is smart enough to know this is going to happen and have worked to address it. Otherwise, Romney is going to see a lot of Trump supporters blaming him for November's pending losses.

I have a disagreement with one part of the article:

"Whether he intends it or not, the media is going to do what they can to structure a Romney v. Trump situation. I hope Mitt Romney's advisors have figured out a way to help him navigate that and handle it."

I would submit that the actual intention by Romney and the Deep State was INTENDED, by the RINO-progressive leadership, to set up a media-fueled "situation," but NOT just between Trump and Romney. This was also intended to keep Cruz, Lee, and Paul from potentially rising to Senate leadership positions, and probably just as importantly, to ensure that the purse strings of the National Republican Senate Committee be used to fund anti-conservative, anti-Tea Party senate candidate in the GOP primary races in 2020 and beyond. Romney is most probably going to emulate his 2012 running mate in the House by replacing McConnell in the Senate. The Deep State lives on, but with much stronger and devious corporate clamps.

It is sad that out of one of the most conservative states in the country, we are likely going to get the "severe conservative", original author of Obamacare, Mitt Romney. If he was running out of Massechusetts, then I'd be all for it. Utah can do so much better. (Coming from an Alabamian whose state just elected a Democrat. I did what I could and supported Mo Brooks.)

I think Trump is much more likely to fuel the narrative than the media or Romney.

I could easily see Trump attacking Romney, betting on a different candidate, or sending out a series of tweets. I don't think it would stop Romney from winning, but it would continue to fuel the war.

On the other hand, if trump endorses Romney and lets bygones be bygones I don't see a story here.
