John Kelly is Out. Hasn't Spoken to the President in More Than a Week.

He was waiting for the President to fire him.

John Kelly is out at the White House. President Trump says Kelly will be gone by the end of the year. The President and General Kelly have not spoken in more than a week and a pretty reliable source tells me Kelly had been waiting for the President to force the issue. Their relationship had apparently turned rather passive aggressive.

President Trump chose not to do it to his face, but to tell it to reporters on the South Lawn of the White House. He says General Kelly will leave by the end of the year. The front runner for Kelly's position is Pence's Chief of Staff, Nick Ayers. Ayers would be a very, very solid pick. He has been a steady hand over the years having run Sonny Perdue's gubernatorial re-election in Georgia and then served as the head of the Republican Governors Association.

God speed, General Kelly.

Kelly greased his own skids when he attacked the First Lady, Ivanka, and her husband. He ASKED to be fired by doing so, but Trump was gracious enough not to do so. He had offered to resign before, and Trump realized it was time for him to do so. Kelly had served well until he attacked the family.

Trump needs a stalwart supporter in that role, so Bossie or Lewandowski are most likely.

Gen. Flynn would be a great choice, but he will be involved in testifying in too many criminal cases against Obama era officials, that his time will be obligated.

Come on, Kelly is just a four star General. The president said during the campaign that he knows better that the generals. In my opinion that means at least 5 stars or 1 Galaxy.

Kelly is just the next one in a long line of people exiting the Trump Administration White House. General Mattis is next. Willingly or unwillingly he's going to leave. the Donald is going to surround himself with yes-men like Mr Pompeo, who I lost respect for after his performance in front of Congress explaining how the Prince had no connection to the murder and dismemberment of a journalist...

Bob Woodward's book and the anonymous NYTimes op-ed had a role in DJT re-examining where his peoples' loyalties lie. I wouldn't be surprised if Mattis goes out in 2019.

For what it's worth, retired General Kelly still has my respect and I believe he served his country with honor through the end.

Howard Baker, John Sununu and Erskine Bowles were solid people and performed extremely well in this role. Sherm Adams, who served Eisenhower but got booted after his wife accepted a vicuna coat from a Boston guy in the cross hairs of an FTC investigation, was among the best. Adams went on to found Loon Mountain ski area in NH, a fine organization.

Here's the difference. They all had gravitas going in. Nick Ayers, not exactly, more like Hamilton Jordan. Ayers could do well, but only if he stands up when it's important.
