I am a John Bolton fan. He values precision and clarity at a time when our foreign policy still seems nebulous. He has a connection and relationship with the President at a level where the President might actually listen to him. John Bolton is no fan of Russia and, should the President listen to him, we might stop acting like children as a nation when it comes to Russia. Bolton hates communists, so perhaps he will be more strident in dealing with China, North Korea, and Cuba. Bolton hates the Iran deal so perhaps we can be rid of it.
John Bolton will be clarifying in terms of this President's goals in the national security space and Bolton will not shy away from fights. He will be willing to wage war on a bureaucratic element that often seem to want to obfuscate and muddy things.
I do have one concern though. Bolton has never struck me as someone afraid to go to war. And I'd prefer someone afraid of war who is willing to fight than one who is just ready to get on with it. A number of my friends who know more about the national security space than me are convinced that Bolton at the National Security Council will just escalate any timetables for war. I don't know about that, but I do respect their opinion on the matter.
What I do know is that Bolton is an adult who hates communists and we need one of those around the President right now.
