If Necessary, Shut Down the Government to Get the Wall

It is way past time to get a real commitment.

It is way past time to get a real commitment for a wall. I do not care how many Americans support or oppose the wall. The President made it a central plank of his platform, Republicans have campaigned in favor of it and pretended repeatedly to fund it, and I think it is a visible symbol of our resolve to both secure our borders and stop these ridiculous caravans that keep traveling north.

It is fundamentally and absolutely worth building the wall. The President, at this point, has nothing to lose. The President should allow the government to shut down, hop a plane to Mara Lago, and stay there until Democrats yield on the issue. I have offered up the idea that the President should offer the Democrats a deal allowing Dreamers to stay, though without citizenship. I think a reasonable offer should be made.

But regardless, the wall should be funded and begun in the remainder of this fiscal year. If Democrats will not allow the wall to proceed, President Trump should let the government shut down and build a wall around the United States Capitol. After all, when Barack Obama was President, he built fences to keep tourists out of monuments when the government shut down. If it is good enough to keep citizens out of the World War II memorial, it is good enough to keep illegal immigrants out of our country. And until then, put a temporary fence around the Capitol to keep the Democrats there until they yield.

Build the wall. Shut down the government if you must.

Our President needs to stand firm on building the wall. The wall stands for equal justice, us & the melting pod of immigration that we are, the rule of law and all that makes America great. The Ds seem to think the wall stands for racism. They have it wrong and POTUS has it right. If the GOPers in Congress would get behind POTUS they could collectively make these points & win the suburban women's vote back along with the cross-over Ds that elected DT in 2016. Let you voice be heard on this on GradeGov.com.

Whatever the wall costs will be cheaper than ponying up to provide illegal aliens everything they need or demand--free food, clothing, housing, education and medication--for the rest of their leeching lives.

Building tall and beautiful wall at Mexico’s expense was one of the major selling point of Trump’s campaign. And it worked. So to build a wall at the expense of the Americans is helping Trump to complete his deception of the American people.

So Erick, what would Grandmother Lucy and Grandfather Erick Erickson think of this idea?

How come not one Republican candidate in 2016 proposed a taxpayer funded wall?

On this basis I am suspicious of this idea as not being cost effective.

A side issue - How come so many Republican primary voters were duped by the promise of a Mexico funded wall. This told me more about the one making the promise and the Republican primary voters who fell for it than anything else.
