Donald Trump to Nominate William Barr to be Attorney General

Mr. Barr served as Attorney General for George H. W. Bush

William Barr is 68 years old and the Attorney General for George H. W. Bush. If President Trump has his way, General Barr will also be his AG. During the Bush years, Mr. Barr was known as a blunt talking, no nonsense, tough on crime Attorney General. He would be returning to the position at a time that crime is down, but the push or legal drug use has risen rapidly. He would also come in at a time criminal justice reform is a hot topic. In Virginia, Barr worked for then Governor George Allen to reform the criminal justice system in that state.

The President intends to nominate Mr. Barr and several Democrats, including that idiot from Hawaii, are already signaling a no vote, which has more to do with the President and less to do with any real objections. Barr should probably be confirmed.

Interestingly, Barr worked at the CIA before working on the domestic policy staff for President Reagan. He is a very responsible pick of bipartisan credentials who has even earned the praise of people like Joe Biden. Biden thought very highly of Barr during his time in the Senate with Barr as Attorney General.

seems like a decent pick. Of course people said the same about Garland and that didn't do him any good in this partisan world we now reside. Personally I think he should be seated, but I don't really care if republicans get upset if he isn't. This is the world you built.

Barr isn't Trump's pick. Trump's pick is Matthew Whittaker. Barr is somebody else's recommendation, sold to Trump on the grounds that "He was Bush41's A-G, so why not capitalize on his death by bringing Barr back as a 'tribute'?" And also that he could actually get confirmed.

Although reportedly, Barr doesn't want the job - and what non-Redcap would? - but seems to feel as if he's being drafted. If I were he, I'd heed that first instinct and turn it down, unless his thinking is that Robert Mueller needs protecting. He's guaranteed to be asked about that at confirmation hearings anyway, and his answer isn't going to make Trump happy, since he can't say anything else.

It will be interesting to see if the Democrats put up a unanimous Kavanaugh-like front to try to stop his confirmation. Of course, that will just prolong the term of acting-AG Whitaker, who they also don't want. But maybe they will read Erick's Christmas post and confirm a qualified candidate simply because he is a qualified candidate.
