Breaking: Brian Kemp Steps Down as Secretary of State in Georgia

He will work full time on his gubernatorial transition.

Having won the Georgia Governor's race, but recognizing there are concerns about him sitting on the state elections board that will have to certify the election, Georgia's Secretary of State Brian Kemp is stepping down from the office.

There are still provisional ballots that have to be counted in Georgia and the Georgia Elections Board will have to either intervene or certify the results. Kemp could not sit on the board as it is a conflict of interest and he has decided to resign and focus on his transition.

It is the right move.

There has been a lot of hysteria over the election and Kemp's supposed conflict of interests in the race, but the Secretary of State is not actually involved in the race until after it concludes and the Georgia Elections Board convenes. Kemp is resigning before that process.

He will be Georgia's next Governor.

I bet you guys really sweated that one out, Erick. Just a tad bit too close for comfort.

I just saw an ad on Facebook from Abrams trying to locate anyone who had an issue voting. I think she’s trying to contest the results in court.

It's clear that the guy has a conflict of interest. What is also clear is that he attempted to effect the election with his accusation of the Democrats "hacking" the system. This is obviously a blatant attempt to use his power to affect the outcome and there should be an investigation.

I will be so glad when this is finally over and KEMP is sworn in as our new governor! I learned this election that too many Americans have no clue how the election process works! I have worked polls in the past and I wish everyone would learn how this process actually works so the next election won't have so many believing all the lies floating about on how elections work and the roll of the Secretary of State and the election boards of the counties!
