Having won the Georgia Governor's race, but recognizing there are concerns about him sitting on the state elections board that will have to certify the election, Georgia's Secretary of State Brian Kemp is stepping down from the office.
There are still provisional ballots that have to be counted in Georgia and the Georgia Elections Board will have to either intervene or certify the results. Kemp could not sit on the board as it is a conflict of interest and he has decided to resign and focus on his transition.
It is the right move.
There has been a lot of hysteria over the election and Kemp's supposed conflict of interests in the race, but the Secretary of State is not actually involved in the race until after it concludes and the Georgia Elections Board convenes. Kemp is resigning before that process.
He will be Georgia's next Governor.
