Both Sides Embarrassed Themselves at the Peter Strzok Hearing

It was not a great moment for either party in the House of Representatives.

Yes, both sides did. I think Louis Gohmert asked a very relevant question to Strzok. Strzok's adultery does bear on his character and credibility and his potential to be blackmailed. I just wish many of the Republicans who are attacking Strzok over his adultery realized they're making a case that also undermines President Trump for the very same reasons.

Strzok handled himself poorly. He clearly lied about the context of his anti-Trump text messages. The whole Louden County stuff was dumb and he should have just apologized and moved on. But he was clearly too smarmy to do that.

The Republicans were so focused on corruption and anti-Trump biases at the FBI that they failed to seriously address a relevant issue Strzok raised. The FBI was working under assumptions that the Russians wanted to help the Trump campaign and there was evidence to that effect beyond the Chis Steele dossier. But, considering even Strzok thought nothing would come of the Mueller investigation, it seems even he was prepared to move on by the end of 2016 from that angle. October 2016, however, was a different matter.

Concurrently, there were other avenues by which the Russians wanted to affect the election. Strzok was involved in investigating those as well and the GOP missed an opportunity to pursue relevant lines of questioning.

The Democrats flubbed the hearing too. They seemed so interested in protecting Strzok that they became willing to defend the FBI against some serious allegations. They outright dismissed the allegations and covered for the FBI. But the Inspector General's record shows the FBI handled itself poorly and Strzok, in particular, had a series of text messages that did so bias against both Donald Trump and his voters.

It is somewhat ironic that, in the Age of Trump, Republicans are ignoring Russia to focus on the FBI and Democrats are ignoring the FBI to focus on Russia.

It was not a fine day for Congress and is another in a growing number of reasons why cameras should be taken out of congressional hearings. The congress critters were more interested in grandstanding and the witness did himself no favors by smirking and preening the whole time as Democrats sought to protect him.

@esotericwy, you must have wondered into this site by mistake. The place for Putin-bots is over there (pointing to Breitbart and RS). They are waiting for you, HURRY UP!!!!

@eso -- Strzok's only "ideology" is his dedicate to protecting our country. Protecting it from people like you, for instance: Russian bots intent on disintegrating our democracy.

WHERE? oh WHERE? is the beef? Not one single indictment for COLLUSION but more then plenty evidence that t3he TRUMP/RUSSIAN Collusion was a Sting to deflect away from the CLINTON numerous scandals including TREASON and the Obama administration SPYGATE..

I will always go back to Ignorance is not an excuse for STUPIDITY with all due respect.

Stork lies and it is no BIG deal. One would have to be blind, deaf and dumb to have watched the Hearing and NOT come away with a very large ? about the credibility of Peter Stzrok. He blatantly puts for this world and the numerous others to see that he had a bone to pick with Trump, had a very low opinion of him and was a "true believer" to a myopic and delusional IDEOLOGY.

The whole thing was a disgrace. I was expecting to hear about the deep state, and how this group of people religiously talked up by every trump toadie from hannity to redstate has been plotting the demise of this president since the day he said he was running. Instead I get questions about mistresses and sideshow antics. I think there are alot of traitors in our country right now. People so scared of the other side they will let Russia burn this country to the ground.

For those with some grey matter floating around above your spines...the story gets yet more absurd!

The new Russian indictments state that the DNC hacking by Russian agents began on...July 27. Why is this noteworthy? Well, it's the very same day Trump made this rather remarkable statement:

“I will tell you this, Russia: If you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing. I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.”

I can't imagine this being anything other than coincidental, but it's pretty amusing. Then again, a smart counter intelligence operation would probably do this simply to create the suspicion in order undermine Trump at some later point, which it's now doing. The President is so incredibly dense...that he managed to set up a sting on himself...dear lord.

Of course it also looks like Roger Stone is soon going to be the next guilty plea as it appears he was in communication with the hackers after all. Big shock.

@phantonym claims " FBI agent in question kept tight lid on Trump investigation prior to the election"

Maybe because every FBI boss, then and now, has said publicly, for the record, there IS no "Trump investigation".

So a tight lid was kept on something that did not exist, at least not that the actual FBI knew about. A rogue agent, using his position of authority and trust, running his own operation to undermine Trump? Yep. And even then this super-agent, this paragon of undercover sleuthing, blah blah blah, kept such a "tight lid" on his unauthorized meddling that the steam just leaked right out. Evidently SuperSpy didn't know his official emails could be accessed. Duh. Even Hillary knew that, which is why she tried an end run around FOIA by setting up a secret, unauthorized, illegal server. Once burned, twice shy, thought Clinton, but the ultra-clever FBI guy didn't have a clue.

@eso -- And Republicans. You forgot that the dossier was partially funded by Republicans as well.

Meanwhile, none of the dossier has been disproven, despite the Republicans having the entire apparatus of Congress and the White House to do so, and much of it has in fact been corroborated by evidence.

Oh no! Oh no! What a scandal!

An unnamed person running for a position in Congress asked someone he thought was a hacker from Romania for information on his opponent!

But it gets worse! SO MUCH WORSE! Some other unidentified people, allegedly quite highly placed in the Trump campaign, also asked this Romanian for information!

Oh, the horror! Some people answered internet ads from someone who was not what he pretended to be! This is a remarkable and wholly new event, and people should be warned that some people on the internet might not be who they say they are!

Or perhaps @HDA is alleging that these people who were looking for information on their opponents really had bought the same brand of crystal ball he depends on, so they knew, they really really KNEW, that this fake Romanian hacker was not a Romanian hacker at all, but (cue ominous music) A RUSSIAN!

And this means-------well, to sane people it just means don't fall for phishing scams and people on the net might not be who they say they are. Ask Podesta about that. But to the breathless seekers of something, anything, no matter how flimsy, no matter how irrelevant, no matter how silly, no matter how dishonest, people like @HDA, this is, like, wow, like SO IMPORTANT that he rushes to post a link to a story about it! Because he is UNCOVERING the story!

Well, after National Review covered it. But their version lacked the "oops" that let @HDA titter into his Cheerios.

  1. NOT one indictment has anything to do with Trump/Russian collusion
  2. Mr. Strzok is a leaker like Mr. Comey, Mr. Mueller and many others. The Democrat party should change its name to the Leaker party.
  3. Obama SPIED on an American candidate to the Presidency. That is FACT. The Dossier was funded by Hillary & the DNC.

@esotericwy - I know it hurts, but thems the breaks...

  1. 5 guilty pleas, more than 30 standing grand jury indictments

  2. FBI agent in question kept tight lid on Trump investigation prior to the election

You have no counter point.

@eso -- I was tying to figure out how you could hold the two ideas in your head of Strzock being untrustworthy because of his adultery, yet Trump is telling the truth but I forget that you Trumpsters are commanded to think that Obama was born in Kenya and at the same time believe he wasn't born in Kenya after June of 2016 when Trump said as much.

It's an amazing skill, being a Trumpster...

12 more Russian indictments...TODAY!

"The White House played down the revelations in the indictment, saying there was no evidence that anyone on the Trump campaign knowingly colluded with Russian officials."

Absolutely love their ever evolving story here. Just as ignorance of the law does not excuse one from breaking it...ignorance of the collusion does not make it untrue. What a clown car.

@Subvet72 - Since when was immigration law not enforced? We certainly know that the previous administration was deporting a heck of a lot more people than Trump is. Not really sure what your point is here.

@farmersonlydotcom : +1.

BTW, does anyone here really think that there is a shred of shame, self-reflection or at least cognitive dissonance on the GOP side today now that Mueller has indicted 12 GRU officers? Or has the GOP so thoroughly outsourced its national security thinking to its betters at the Khodinka Airfield and Lubyanka Square that it can't tell the difference any more.
