The President’s Flank Is Failing

“Protect your flank” is a saying that stems from military strategy based on the necessity that a command officer hold troops back from the front line in order to protect from attacks from the side.

It is these attacks to the flanks which are most dangerous and ultimately can lead to defeat. Having their flank protected allows soldiers to focus solely on the fight in front of them, which mean they and their officers knew the importance of utilizing superior trained and highly mobile troops for this effort. The saying now refers to being able to trust that you are protected in the areas where you are most vulnerable.
