NEW: Carly Fiorina rules out Virginia Senate run, Jim Gilmore ‘considering’ candidacy

Former Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina announced on Friday that she will not be pursuing the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Virginia in 2018.

Fiorina, whose candidacy was highly anticipated by conservative Virginians, says she believes she can do more on the “outside.”

“I have made a decision,” Fiorina said. “I have decided that I can be of more value outside the system than a single voice among a hundred inside the system. So, I’m going to continue the work I’ve been doing for many years enlisting up leaders and problem solvers all across the country and have made the decision not to seek the US Senate seat here in the Commonwealth.”John Fredericks speculated on his show that former Virginia Governor and presidential candidate Jim Gilmore may be considering entering into the race.According to CNN, Gilmore is waiting to test to the general attitude of Virginians towards current senator and former Vice Presidential candidate Tim Kaine (D-Va.).“I’m considering if I should pursue the candidacy,” Gilmore said.Corey Stewart, who lost to Ed Gillespie in Virginia’s gubernatorial primary this year, has already announced his intention to run for the Republican nomination.
