Then I read the article and realized that no, in fact, somehow, someway, the political and pop culture analyst for the Huffington Post Andy Ostroy was sincerely making an attempt to promote Hillary Clinton as the top choice for Democrats in 2020.
If you need a few minutes to recompose yourself, please feel free. But when you’re done, check out Andy’s moving plea to fellow liberals:
Clinton is perhaps the most qualified candidate in history. A prestigious legal career, eight years as First Lady, another eight as U.S. Senator from New York and four years as Secretary of State. A die-hard progressive who voted 93 percent of the time with Sen. Bernie Sanders when both served together. And, she’s a woman… and it’s f\***** time America is led by a woman.*
Wait a minute, I admittedly have a hard time keeping up with all the evolving rules of “progress” espoused by “progressives” these days, but isn’t it demeaning for a man like Andy to tell everyone that the gender Hillary identifies as is (1) absolute and not subject to change, and (2) a reason to vote for her? In the first case, if gender is indeed fluid and nothing but a social construct, we may have already had a woman president, right? Hillary might actually be more of a man than James Buchanan ever was, after all. And secondly, isn’t it the height of patriarchal condescension to pretend that we men owe it to women to let them be the leader?
Not my rules, Andy. Those are yours.
I won’t even touch the other nonsense about her legal career, or her tenure as First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State. While I’d love to, frankly I have no desire to dissuade the Democrat Party from choosing to run a 74-year-old Hillary again in the next election.
But Ostroy’s piece provoked the logical question in my mind; exactly who else can the Democrats turn to at this point? Barack Obama has served as a one-man wrecking crew when it comes to the Democrats’ bench. He obliterated the party so efficiently with his identity politics and grievance mongering that there really are no sitting Democrat governors that seem to possess national electability. I mean, Cuomo? Seriously?
Outside of Hillary Part III, there’s Senator Cory Booker who has a nasty truth-telling problem, with the added bonus that he recently sponsored legislation to outlaw part of 1 Corinthians. Then there’s Elizabeth Warren, who faked being a Native American to get a law professor gig at Harvard. Some mention Hillary’s Senate seat successor from New York, Kristen Gillibrand. While made in much the same mold of Hillary, Gillibrand’s propensity to use the F-bomb in conversational interviews would make a face-off against Donald Trump an almost guaranteed NC-17 election.
“Joe Biden, together with Jill, just entered the NH Dem Party dinner here in Manchester, NH.”
