First of all Social Security is not an entitlement, We and our employers paid for it. Had no one ever worked in this country the fund would have zero dollars. So why is the Government all high and mighty about making the calls on it as an entitlement. There would be plenty of funds to carry it indefinitely Had the Government keep their greedy little paws out of the money by switching funds to the general fund. Secondly put it back to original folks that paid into it are eligible to receive payments. Thirdly put all Government employee's, including all senators and congress people, on the plan and dump their retirement into social security to make up for screwing it up in the first place. Remember, this was started by democrats and every increase I believe was initiated by them as well. Designed as another way to steal money from the people. If they want to do something then return all the money to the rightful owners and shut it down and pass a law that you have to belong to a mandatory savings that you cannot touch until at least age 60, no exceptions.
SS very much is an entitlement/welfare program.
The taxes you pay today are being used to pay the benefits of those who are collecting... Also, the amount you can claim is 'progressively' modified so that the wealthier you are, the more you pay & the less you get back...
It's always been that way. Always will be.
The biggest lie in the history of US politics, is that Social Security 'is not an entitlement', and that 'your money' is being held by the government until you retire...
Don't fix it... Abolish it...
You paid a tax that is unrelated to your ability to collect Social Security. So said the Supreme Court in Flemming v. Nestor. Go read it. The government can therefore modify, or stop, Social Security and still collect those taxes.
SS is a ponzi scheme. Close to 160 workers per beneficiary when it was enacted. Less than 3 per beneficiary today. That would earn you prison time today if you promoted such a thing.
Ok, technically, entitlement simply mean you are entitled to it by (current) law. By this standard, social security, unemployment, and food stamps are all entitlements, unless you are making a fraudulent claim.
Actually it is an entitlement. You are entitled to the things you pay directly into, i.e. soc sec and Medicare. Welfare and food stamps you don’t pay directly into and therefore aren’t real entitlements.
