BREAKING: White House Says It Has No Intention to Leave NAFTA “At This Time”

Despite earlier reports that the Trump Administration was considering an imminent withdrawal from NAFTA, the White House released a statement that it has no intention to take such a step “at this time.”

Politico, citing two anonymous White House sources, reported earlier today that America was on the verge of withdrawing from the North American Free Trade Agreement. According to the report, a draft executive order was submitted for circulation and final review within the administration. The order could be signed as early as this week.

Following the report, President Trump spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto. According to the White House statement, “the leaders agreed to proceed swiftly, according to their required internal procedures, to enable the renegotiation of the NAFTA deal to the benefit of all three countries.”

Trump attacked America’s trade policy consistently during the primary and general election, often referring to NAFTA as “the worst trade deal in history.
