BREAKING: Jeff Flake Calls for FBI Investigation

The Arizona Senator voted to bring Kavanaugh's nomination to the whole Senate, but calls for an FBI investigation

After initially signalling this morning he would support Judge Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court, Senator issued a qualifier for his support during the committee hearing this afternoon. Flake called for a limited delay of no more than one week to allow the FBI to conduct an investigation into Christine Ford's allegations against Judge Kavanaugh.

"Making sure that we do due diligence here, and I think it would be proper to delay the floor vote for up to but not more than one week, in order to let the FBI..do an investigation limited time and in scope to the current allegations that are there...I will vote to advance the bill (Kavanaugh's nomination) to the floor with that understanding"

Democrats have been working overtime to delay the vote and ensure Kavanaugh could not be seated in time for the next session, which begins Monday. It's unclear whether Kavanaugh would've been confirmed in time, but a week break would certainly ensure that SCOTUS enters the next session with only 8 justices. Now we will see how Mitch McConnell handles the final vote.

Last night, my husband asked me, what do you think Flake is going to do? I said he will do what he thinks is right, and whatever that is, it fine by me. He did today what he thinks is right. It doesn't matter if I agree with it or not. The heat has been turned down. Something that seemed impossible yesterday. When you vote for someone for the Senate, you are not voting for someone who will vote the same way you want them to vote, every time. Sometimes, you have to trust their instincts. And yes, their instincts can be wrong.

Update: Flake has successfully convinced the GOP to delay the vote for one week while the new opinion polls can come out [cough] sorry, the FBI investigation can inform the GOP Senate. The vote has been delayed.

And if the FBI found nothing after one week? Why, extend it for another week. And another. And another. As many as it takes. This is why feet have to be put down and the minority, which has already been indulged far too much, needs to be told "NO", in firm and no uncertain terms.
