According to TheFireArmBlog, the company’s corporate office hosted a conference call telling stores to pull “all modern sporting rifle lighters and other gifts” along with “airsoft and bb guns resembling an ‘assault rifle.'”
The most shocking development is that the conference call outlined a new policy requiring any sale of more than 10 boxes in a caliber that Academy deems an “assault rifle caliber” will require the buyer to furnish personal information that Academy is planning on keeping in a database, other employees have stated that they were just directed to “report the transaction” with no clear outline on how to do so.
This is an outrageous, hypocritical, and anti-truth move by Academy. They are going the way of Walmart, continuing to sell all kinds of deadly weapons, but not the “scary ones” which apparently kill people by themselves.
Academy has $4.6 billion in sales, not so small a part of it to hunters and shooters, who should be outraged. Their decision is simply a form of economic blackmail against manufacturers of modern sport rifles.
Academy’s decision clearly segregates firearms by their appearance, which sends a dangerous message to our politicians that it’s acceptable to do so. We as an industry must stand and fight, together.
Marty Daniel, President and CEO
Good for Daniel. Also good for all the small gun shops and armories in America, who should pick up business when sportsmen decide to skip the trip to the P.C. Academy store.
Of course, we still have to deal with Operation Choke Point trying to shut down those stores too. If President Obama and his Democrats can’t legally repeal the Second Amendment, they’ll stop gun sales by all other means.
