Watching College Football: Week 11

We'll make it through this disappointing slate of games together, I promise.

Oh hi, didn’t see you there. I was just staring at this weekend’s college football schedule, trying to find good games. I was successful! Kind of.

I qualify that trumpeting of success because, um, the best thing I can say about these games is that there might be an upset or two. There’s maybe one or two truly exciting games all day. But at least it’s football, and some football is better than no football at all!

It’s perhaps easier than usual this week to find the decent games, but harder to determine what’s most worth watching. Below I do my best, with the two usual caveats: if your team is playing then it should be on the Big Screen, and all times are in God’s Time (CST).

Big Screen:Ohio State vs. Michigan State (11a, FOX) is the easy pick here. Mark Dantonio’s scowl is fixed on a vulnerable but still feisty Buckeye squad. I don’t know what to predict here because both of these Big 10 bruisers have shown cracks in the facade. That alone could make things interesting.

Second Screen: How about South Carolina vs. Florida (11a, ESPN)? (Told you we were stretching here.) Another test for Feleipe Franks and the decidedly meh Gators against their former coach, now commanding the Gamecocks.

Watch the Score: West Virginia vs. TCU (11a, FS1)

Big Screen: BEDLAM, BABY! Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State (2:30p, ABC) is that moment during your nap when you bolt up wide awake because there was a loud noise and THE MONSTER IS IN THE HOUSE. If you think I’m overselling this, just imagine the amount of points scored here and tremble. OSU is no slouch, and the Sooners are a legit playoff contender.

Second Screen: Yes, Tide, I didn’t forget about you. Alabama vs. Mississippi State (2:30p, CBS) is the exact opposite of Bedlam – a boring game where the outcome is known beforehand and CLANGA’s defeat at the hands of the most efficient win-producing machine ever developed is assured. But hey, beatdowns are sometimes fun to watch.

Watch the Score: Oregon vs. Utah (4:30p, PAC12N), Washington State vs. Colorado (2:30p, ESPN), Northwestern vs. Iowa (2:30p, FOX)

Big Screen: Clemson vs. Boston College (7p, ABC) is the featured primetime game on the ESPN family of networks. That’s how bad this week is. Because the ACC is a gigantic nothingburger, Clemson will probably walk all over BC, but for the exact same reason the Eagles could sneak up on the Tigers.

Second Screen: Gimme Texas vs. Texas Tech (6:30p, FOX), a not-so-secretly crazy game in the making. Wouldn’t be surprised by a Tech boatracing of an indecisive Longhorn team, and wouldn’t be shocked either by Tom Herman’s boys taking it to Tech’s excuse for a defense.

Watch the Score: South Florida vs. Cincinnati (6p, ESPNU)

Nothing to see here. Go to bed early!
