If any of you support higher minimum wages, come out to California during the holiday season and learn a cautionary tale. Insanely high minimum wage laws have meant that most retail enterprises are trying to do with fewer workers resulting in poor customer service everywhere. Imagine going to a shoe store with one, yes one, employee who is trying to handle four customers wanting to try ten different shoes each, answering the phone (which, as you notice everywhere, always takes priority over everything else), ringing up purchases, wrapping gifts, handling returns, and taking smoke breaks. The picture is similar everywhere you go. It is exceedingly rare to find a store which is adequately staffed. So we will continue to endure higher prices, poorer service, and fewer starter and seasonal jobs for the young people...

I am only speculating, but I believe that was one of the goals of that bunch of Democrats who voted that law in place, or they were dumb enough to think they could just force the dollars out of wallets from honest hard working people who start and run businesses, for their Utopian nightmare.
