‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’ Trailer Reveals ‘Focus on Tactical Gameplay’ [VIDEO]

New trailer for latest in military video game franchise is the “most thrilling grounded combat experience yet.”

The Call of Duty video game franchise endures. And the new trailer for the latest entry emphasizes that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will have players concentrate on engaging in “tactical gameplay” and “player choice.”

I no longer play video games. The last console I owned was a used PlayStation 2, and the last game I repeatedly played was Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies. But I really did like video games at one time. I grew up playing them on the Atari 2600 and 7800. And the new trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 looks like it could be enjoyable—and not just because of its gameplay.

Watch the trailer and decide if you’re excited for it. What particularly interested me about it is that it looks like it is focused, at least in part, on reality. And what I mean by that is that it doesn’t feature zombies (although apparently there is going to be a version that does).

Zombies are outside the lane of the Call of Duty franchise, which should feature a generally realistic military setting. (And, yes, a military setting in the future can be realistic as long as the designers stick to current forecasting trends.) So while it appears that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will again contain some fantastic elements, it’s nice to see that it appears to be sticking to a more authentic setting.

And while I don’t expect it to be entirely accurate, the fact that its creators are emphasizing that “the most thrilling grounded combat experience yet” will “focus on tactical gameplay” is noteworthy. After all, as I’ve written previously, the real-world armed forces are increasingly interested in virtual reality and video games.

Nevertheless, it doesn’t look like the game is going to be a military recruiting tool. Watch the other trailer released today and see what I mean (strong language warning).

So enjoy the new trailers for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, and feel free to let us know in the comments what you think about it. The game is set to debut Oct. 12.
