The pregnant widow of fallen soldier Sgt. La David Johnson broke her silence Monday morning, contradicting President Trump's account of his phone call and indicating she has 'nothing to say' to him.
“The president said that he knew what he signed up for but it hurts anyway,” [Myeshia] Johnson said. “And it made me cry because I was very angry at the tone of his voice and how he said it. He couldn’t remember my husband’s name. The only way he could remember my husband’s name was he told me he had my husband’s report in front of him and that’s when he actually said La David.”
Johnson confirmed that Rep. Frederica Wilson, who has publicly sparred with the president over the issue, was present during the call and has given an accurate account:
“Whatever Ms. Wilson said was not fabricated,” Johnson said in her first interview since her husband’s death. “What she said was 100 percent correct.”
She added that everyone in the car heard the call:
“The phone was on speaker phone. Why would we fabricate something like that?”
Trump, who has publicly denounced Rep. Wilson's claims, responded to the interview Monday morning on Twitter :
