President Donald Trump suggested instituting a rating system for films and video games as a solution to U.S. gun violence. Unbeknownst to the President, the U.S. has had a movie rating system since 1930.
All movies released in the United States are rated by the Motion Picture Association of America prior to their public release. In addition, some states also regulate a minimum age for attending films.
"I'm hearing more and more people say the level of violence on video games is really shaping young people's thoughts. And you go one further step and that's the movies. ... maybe they have to put a rating system for that," he added. However, ratings systems already exist for both video games and films in the United States.
