In a video released on Trump's personal Twitter, the President claimed that "nobody could have done what I’ve done for #PuertoRico with so little appreciation. So much work!"
This is leading to Puerto Ricans leaving the island and putting down roots in the mainland United States. Already, more Puerto Ricans live on the U.S. mainland than live on Puerto Rico. The destruction caused by Hurricane Maria will add to those permanently leaving the island.
Just yesterday, Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselló, begged for more aid from the U.S. congress, stressing the unprecedented nature of the crisis.
"We are grateful for the federal emergency assistance that has been provided so far," Rosello wrote. "However, absent extraordinary measures to address the halt in economic activity in Puerto Rico, the humanitarian crisis will deepen, and the unmet basic needs of the American citizens of Puerto Rico will become even greater."
In Trump's mind (and his media enablers) Puerto Rico has already been fixed.
