Millionaire Republican Senator Ron Johnson told a group of high school students that healthcare and food are a privilege, not a right according to MSNBC.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) spoke to a group of high-school students near Milwaukee on Friday morning, and he heard from one student who asked, “Do you personally consider health care as a privilege or a right?” The far-right senator replied: “I think it’s probably more of a privilege. Do you consider food a right? Do you consider clothing a right? Do you consider shelter a right? What we have as rights is life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Past that point, we have the right to freedom. Past that point everything else is a limited resource that we have to use our opportunities given to us to afford those things.

“Sen. Rand Paul talked about this on the floor of the Senate. He’s a doctor. He said the minute you consider health care a right, well, who’s going to satisfy that right? And those people who have the skills to satisfy that right, what does that make them if they’re forced to provide you with that rightful product or service?”

The constitution doesn’t regulate our needs and desires as citizens of these United States, it only safeguards the absolute. I’m not sure what he meant by outside of that is freedom. Ni@@a, freedom is absolute. Sorry, anyway, because we live in a democracy (a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections.) We The People set the guidelines for what we want the government to help with. That piece of paper written in a land before time does not direct us nor order us, it merely is a baseline period. We should as equal citizens declare poverty a need to be helped by us. We should always want to help the unfortunate because it could be us.

The right to life necessarily includes the right to life’s necessities, all of which were readily available to everyone prior to the advent of governments. What is and remains a privilege is the amassing of wealth, which would be impossible without the existence of government. Tax the wealthy! Feed the poor!

THIS IS A CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC... NOT A MOBOCRACY... THE PRE AMBLE IS NOT A GRANT OF POWER AND THE SENATORS ARE CORRECT...THE U.S. CONSTITUTION... USE IT OR LOSE IT 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍👍.

Let them eat cake.

Is this guy from another planet? Food is a privilege?

What he is talking about here is that the bill of rights are all about process rights. Freedoms of - assembly, religion, and so on. Food, shelter and so on are material rights, and the Communists are all about material rights. It is, as I think it has been adequately shown, very difficult to give both to the citizens. The closest I've seen is the Scandinavian Democratic socialism. But it is very expensive, and you won't find a lot of tax cuts there.

WRONG! DO YOU REALLY WANT THIS MAN IN A POSITION OF POWER WHEN HE SAYS AT ANYTIME HE CAN CUT YOU OFF OF YOUR FOOD AND YOUR LIVELYHOOD? WAKE THE HELL UP PEOPLE OBVIOUSLY YOU DID NOT LIVE IN THE ERA I DID WHEN WAR TOOK IT ALL AWAY FROM US AND THESE SOCIAL SAFETY NETS WERE PUT IN PLACE TO SAVE US FROM DEATH! THERE WAS NO WORK THEN, THE STOCK MARKET WENT BELLY UP AND COMPANIES CLOSED THEIR DOORS. Millions out of work and we were in a WW right after this- SOUP LINES WERE CREATED SO MAYBE YOU COULD EAT THAT DAY! HOW STUPID ARE YOU THAT YOU WANT THIS ALL TAKEN AWAY? YOU ARE LETTING THE CORRUPT TAKE IT ALL AND DIVIDE US AND FOR THAT I DIRECTLY BLAME ALL OF YOU FOR AGREEING WITH THIS IGNORANT BIGOTTED CORRUPT POLITICIAN! WISCONSIN NEEDS TO WAKE THE HELL UP.

What the Constitutions and other documents say, in fact, is that those rights not enumerated in the Constitution are treated to be existent. That only SOME rights are enumerated in that document. It is not all encompassing, by any standard.

Furthermore, food and healthcare are necessary for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Nowhere does it say that Congress has any rights, or even any authority, other than that lent by the people. It certainly does not say that they have the right to raid the Social Security trust fund, either. But they did it.
