The sheriff was recently found guilty of intentionally ignoring a court order to cease arresting immigrants based solely on the suspicion that they were in the country illegally according to NBC News. The former Sheriff faces 6-months in jail for the misdemeanor conviction but attorneys who have followed the case doubt that he will serve any time at all.
The former Sheriff had been overwhelmingly popular with Maricopa community.
He and his deputies were accused multiple times of abusing Latino-Americans and those he suspected were illegal immigrants based merely on their skin color.
The Sheriff came out strongly from Donald Trump in election 2016, whose platforms and beliefs about Latino-Americans and immigrants largely matched his own.
Speaking about the President, Mr. Arpaio said, “I was with him since Day One, and I am with him until the end. I don’t ask him for anything. He can throw me into the swamp and cover me up in garbage, and I’d still support him.”
The former Sheriff has been reduced to on the internet following his conviction of criminal contempt of court.
