JAMES HECKMAN / Founder and CEO
Mr. Heckman is a digital media and advertising pioneer who has founded paradigm-shifting publisher networks and served as a senior strategist with major public companies.
He served as Head of Global Media Strategy for Yahoo!, leading all significant transactions and revenue strategy under Ross Levinsohn’s tenure. And as Chief Strategy Officer at Fox Digital, he architected the first programmatic social advertising platform as part of the market-changing, $900 million ad alliance between Google and Myspace and was instrumental in Hulu’s formation.
Prior to Yahoo!, Mr. Heckman was founder/CEO of the online advertising platform 5to1.com (sold to Yahoo!); CSO of Zazzle.com; Founder/CEO of Scout.com (sold to Fox), Founder/CEO of Rivals.com and Rivals.net (sold to Yahoo!, post tenure and 365-Sports, respectively); and President and Publisher of NFL Exclusive, an official NFL publication network.
Like Maven, Rivals and Scout were ground breaking initiatives that coalesced market-leading independent publishers into national, single-platform networks driven by rich content and passionate online communities. Both networks, well into their second decades in business, remain major players in the sports world. Heckman holds a bachelor’s in Communications from the University of Washington.
JOSH JACOBS / Executive Co-Chair
Mr. Jacobs, a veteran leader in monetizing digital media platforms, serves in a full-time officer role with Maven as executive co-chair and is a member of the board of directors. He leads Maven’s advertising platforms and partnerships, and, with James Heckman, oversees corporate strategy and product vision.
He is a pioneer in the programmatic media-buying industry, building innovative platforms and strategies on a global scale, first as an engineer, and for the last 17 years as a senior executive operating and scaling major media and advertising brand initiatives.
Prior to Maven, Jacobs most recently served as president of services at Kik Interactive, one of the world’s largest messaging apps. Before Kik, he served as global CEO of Accuen Media, Omnicom’s media-buying platform, and president of the Omnicom Media Group. At Accuen he led Omnicom’s programmatic media-buying business, creating a premier, data-driven, media-buying solution for global clients.
Previously, Jacobs served as SVP of advertising products and global marketing at Glam (Mode) Media, and VP/GM of marketing and technology at Yahoo!
BILL SORNSIN / Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Sornsin has been on the forefront of web and digital media technology advancements since the 1990s.
He ran MSN's Core Technology team, including the original MSN Communities and instant messaging, before co-founding two of the web’s most successful professional publisher networks: Rivals.com and Scout.com. He served as CTO for both. With Scout’s 2005 acquisition by Fox Interactive Media, he joined Fox as vice president of engineering and operations for that unit. He then moved into consulting, during which time he worked as acting-CTO of the online advertising platform 5to1 (acquired by Yahoo!). He returned to Scout in 2013 as CTO (later COO), and directed a massive technological renovation focused on mobile and video.
Sornsin began his tech career as a Rockwell Collins test engineer, then joined Microsoft in various roles including product planning lead for Microsoft Exchange. He holds a bachelor’s in electrical/computer engineering from the University of Iowa and an MBA from UCLA.
BEN JOLDERSMA / Chief Technology Officer
Mr. Joldersma’s career spans nearly two decades of large-scale digital media publishing and advertising platform development. He leads a veteran team of Maven engineers and designers who coalesce the company’s value proposition — technology, distribution and monetization — into a powerful, scalable suite of tools for channel partners.
Joldersma was the CTO and chief architect of the single-platform national sports network Scout.com, and the CTO of the digital media advertising management firm 5to1. In addition, he was a senior software engineer at Google, where he researched and developed image visualization systems for Google Maps; and a principal software engineer in the advertising platform unit at Yahoo!
He has also held senior engineering roles at Microsoft, aQuantive and Rivals.com, and was the founder and CEO of the Seattle software development firm Skull Squadron..
MARTY HEIMBIGNER / Chief Financial Officer
A veteran Chief Financial Officer for public companies and emerging growth technology companies, Mr. Heimbigner is known for leveraging resources that drive performance. He most recently served public and private technology companies in his work with the consulting firm Pacific CFO Group LLC. Prior to that, he was CFO for Bsquare Corporation (NASDAQ:BSQR), where he led all corporate finance, investor relations, HR, legal and IT activities, and SEC reporting. He has extensive digital media experience with Demand Media (NYSE:DMD) and scaling technology companies.
Heimbigner spent ten years as a partner in the professional services firm Tatum LLC and served as President, CEO and Lead Independent Director at City Bank (NASDAQ:CTBK) in Seattle to navigate the bank through its greatest challenge following the economic recession in 2008.
He previously served as CFO at high-tech start-ups Airbiquity Inc. and Dimension4 Inc. Heimbigner began his professional career as an auditor and tax consultant with KPMG Peat Marwick and later served as assistant controller of Washington Energy Company (NYSE:WECO). He holds two degrees from Washington State University and an executive MBA from the University of Washington.
ROB SCOTT / Senior Vice President and General Counsel
A long-time corporate finance and media attorney, Mr. Scott is Maven's general counsel and senior vice president overseeing network development. He possesses a wealth of experience working with and advising owners of digital properties of all sizes, and in overseeing complex operations and integrations of disparate rights owners.
He comes to Maven from New York, where he ran a boutique practice servicing clients in the startup and venture capital world and rights owners in media and entertainment. He previously worked in the corporate finance departments at Shearman & Sterling LLP and King & Spalding LLP in New York.
Mr. Scott also is the co-founder of forward-thinking lifestyle company Further Future, which has produced large-scale festivals combining music and cultural content with talks and workshops by world-renowned thought-leaders, artists and media visionaries in a wide range of fields. He was born in South Africa and raised in Australia.
