The playoffs are coming, and do you know what that means? It means that you need to find a way to NOT lose your mind. The tension is insane right now, to say the least, and if you’ve been reading any of our write ups on what to expect as the playoffs enter full swing, then you’re probably either placing bets or talking your friend’s ears off about your take on the entire thing.
Well, no one can blame you, but here’s a question: How do you keep calm during the playoff season? How do you quell the anxiety and pure rage the builds up when your team takes the court, and most importantly, how are you going to deal with the downtime between games? That second part is probably going to be the most important.
Tip: 1 – Find a Hobby
We get it: basketball is your hobby, and why wouldn’t it be? It’s awesome, but during your downtime (anytime a playoff game isn’t on), you need to find something else to do, seriously. Take up cross stitching, go bowling, or spend some time hiking. If you’re still feeling the basketball fever in between games, then NBA2k18 is coming out, and you can probably find a few friends that want to play.
Tip: 2 – Take the Court on your Own
In between watching your favorite team make their rounds up and down the court, why not try it yourself? There’s probably a local gym where you can get a few shots in, or maybe there’s a basketball court down the street. You can find lots of people to play with, and they’re probably all just as anxious as you are; imagine that.
Tip: 3 – Spend Some Time Watching ESPN
Just because the game is over doesn’t mean people are going to stop talking about it. In between hobbies, chores, and life obligations, watch replays and discussions on ESPN, you might learn something new!
Tip: 4 – Study the Players
There’s nothing quite like going into the game prepared, even if you’re not a player. It would be a great idea for you to study the players and see who you should be watching this season. Actually, we recently provided a pretty good list of players to watch, so take a look at it!
Tip: 5 – Get into a Discussion!
You can’t stop thinking about the game, so why not spend some time talking about it? One of the best things you can do is have a discussion about the last one, or talk about the one that’s coming up. In fact, you can really take it to the next level by joining some online forums or chat rooms. Just don’t get too sucked in.
Tip 6: – Try Fantasy Football
Okay, we’ve wandered into the area of ‘cliché’ here but you know what? It really works, and that’s awesome. You can find a Fantasy Football league near you pretty easily, and the best part is that you can actually make some money with it if you do it right.
Tip 7: – Head to an Actual Game
When playoff fever is in full swing, there’s no reason to NOT head to the stadium. Watching your favorite team in action this year, rather than simply watching them on your TV screen will definitely get the blood pumping and give you something to think about for days, weeks, or years to come.
