This is a little scary that 1 in 4 people think that they can retire on just Social Security payments.

I don't think Social Security is going away, contrary to what many believe. For decades, people have been saying this. However, I do think the benefits will change over time.

I think benefits will be reduced and the age at which you receive full monthly payments will increase.

It is very wise to not count on Social Security for your retirement and whatever you do receive will just be icing on the cake.

Keep staying close to Sean Hyman and set aside money for retirement every month. Make your money work for you. It's never too late to start.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to depend on a government program for my existence in retirement. I don't believe they fully have my best interests in mind. So it's prudent to be a steward of our money now rather than just having the mindset that "the government will take care of me when I'm old via Social Security". I agree with you Russ. Plus, Surviving only off of Social Security would have a person in poverty in their retirement years. And if there were huge medical needs, its not going to cover it.

This year SS recipient' s raise went to pay for the increase of Medicare B increase

So we got a big fat 0 for our use...

This has happened more than one time...

Yeah, social security, in my opinion...is not a retirement plan. It's just a way to keep from starving. Investing ahead of time is the way to go. I'm never putting my future in the hands of our government.

Some of these folks will be living with relatives and provisions made by the relatives, in my opinion. For the 1 in 4, let's hope so, anyway!

Yes, the unprepared end up relying on the prepared. But let's be the prepared anyway. Amen.
