Ravi Bhalla Wins Hoboken Mayoral Race

Celebrating Ravi Bhalla's historic win in the face of flyers calling him a "terrorist."

There's a ton more to say about last night's election, but for now, let me just join so many others in celebrating Ravi Bhalla's win in Hoboken. I don't know Bhalla personally, but I do know his record of service on the Hoboken City Council for over seven years. I observed his grace when anonymous flyers (designed on top of one of his opponent's) appeared a week ago with the message "Don't let TERRORISM take over our town!" Confident in his community and himself, Bhalla just kept it moving, right into the Mayor's Office. You can read about Bhalla's record and plans for education, mass transit, infrastructure and more here.

Bhalla is one of a cohort of young South Asian American politicians shaping New Jersey in the 21st century.

Inspiring. His is the face of courage.

Such good news from Hoboken. And, readers might be interested in knowing that Yuba City (CA) named the first Sikh American female mayor in November: http://www.sacbee.com/news/local/article187331968.html.
