This is a great read by Nicole Chung about taking her daughter to see A Winter's Tale with a heavily Asian American cast. She writes of her frustration with the lack of Asian characters in books and movies. She gets everything that comes out, but it still only amounts to "probably less than one percent" of what her kids read. When this show came around she decided to go, even though her kid is maybe too young for Shakespeare. She writes, "She might not know Shakespeare yet, I thought, but she would—she’d be assigned his plays in school and see them performed onstage, on film. And now she would always be able to look back and recall that the first time she ever saw a Shakespearean play, many of the people bringing the story to life before her eyes were Asian American. Just like her."

I appreciated learning more about how much effort parents of color put into introducing their children to a world that includes them. Also I appreciated that Nicole Chung pointed out that plays that are cast all white are also racially cast.
