NYC Considers Law That Would Ban Companies From Requiring Employees to Check Email After Work

Man am I glad I got out of this area... They just never seem to run out of bad ideas over there.

Where can I start with the problems here? It's hard to think of a more blatant example of micromanaging, and that's the kind of regulation that really drives economic growth away.

Each person's work-life balance is their own responsibility, not the government's. There are simply too many unique situations to create a law such as this without causing loss of productivity. It is up to both worker and employer to set things up in a way that work does not overtake one's life.

As much an advocate I am of a good balance in all things of life, I'll hardly ever appeal to coercive government force to "make me" be balanced.
