Scotty, I have a 2008 BMW X5 with 110,000 miles and I am having my plastic electronic water pump replaced for the second time. The first was at 55,000 miles and under warranty. This time, it isn't under warranty and my local shop is quoting me $1,275 ($750 parts and the rest in labor, 4 hours). Your 2012 YouTube video, sums up the headache perfectly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vqAbKtLfws

go elsewhere I did one in an hour and a half last week, learned how to do them faster. But yes, they are junk.

I feel that the shop is pretty reputable, and they actually think it might be the radiator fan malfunctioning, so they are ordering a new fan to experiment with and will not charge me for the fan if it turns out to be the water pump.

In the end, it was my water pump. It was replaced and all is well again. I also needed to replace a small hose at the bottom of the radiator as that had a small leak. In the end, it is a $1,400 job. German engineering!

thats why beamers..mercs...jags...are noot suggested unless you have somuch money you care nothing about cost for maintance at all...you just really like to drive those cars...otherwise be frugal and purchase a nice home and get a more reasonable car...you save on insurance too...
