I bought my first car for really a bargain price from an auction, its Alfa Romeo 156 -03 1.8L, not the sweetest or trustiest steed, but i like it myself.

BUT

Now i am wondering, what could be the "cheapest" modifications i could do to the car to get more power out of it? Its a fwd but i still want to tune it just a bit without affecting negatively that much to the economy side.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

cheapest would be to use only high test high octane gasoline. realize alfas prettty much get the most out of the engine that's in them from their original design. You could throw a turbo on it, but really, that's thousands of dollars.
