Make America White Again: Haiti, African Nations ‘Shithole’ Countries

Trump raised a stir today by calling Haiti, African nations ‘shithole’ countries. Trump wants immigrants from Norway.

In a meeting with Senators, Trump Calls Haiti, African Nations ‘Shithole’ Countries.

President Donald Trump questioned senators in an Oval Office meeting Thursday on why the U.S. accepts immigrants from “shithole countries” like Haiti, El Salvador and African nations rather than places like Norway, according to three people briefed on the conversation.

Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont, who wasn’t in the meeting, in a tweet called the president’s remarks, “Breathtakingly offensive. Worse, it’s ignorant of American ideals.”

The chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, Democratic Representative Cedric Richmond of Louisiana, said the president’s statement “reinforces the concerns that we hear every day, that the President’s slogan Make America Great Again is really code for Make America White Again.’ ”

In the strongest reaction from a Republican, Representative Mia Love of Utah, a child of Haitian immigrants, demanded an apology and said the president’s remarks were "unkind, divisive, elitist, and fly in the face of our nation’s values."

"My parents," Love said, "came from one of those countries but proudly took an oath of allegiance to the United States and took on the responsibilities of everything that being a citizen comes with."

"Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?" Trump said, according to the Post, which quoted two people briefed on the meeting. Trump then suggested the U.S. should instead accept more people from countries like Norway, whose prime minister he met with Wednesday.

Trump was reported in December to have made similarly disparaging comments last year about people who had received U.S. visas in 2017. He said that people from Haiti "all have AIDS" while people from Nigeria would never "go back to their huts," the New York Times said.

No one can accuse Trump of not speaking his mind. Comment away.

It was ok to come from a shithole country when there was no instant welfare, medicaid and foodstamps. It is not ok now.......

No actually. It wasn't even okay then.

People forget - or are never taught - that even right after the founding and continuing into the first part of the 20th century there were restrictions on who could immigrate into the US. We didn't just open the floodgates and allow anyone in. Many were rejected and sent packing. Those that were not were marked with a tag. Which is where the old saying "do I have a tag on my lapel saying I just got off a boat?" came from. It impled that the one using the phrase thought the person to whom they were speaking assumed them stupid or ignorant.

Immigration into the US was tightly controlled until recently - as in the past 20 years or so.

Illinois democrat Durban was the only democrat at the meeting and it is he who claims the nasty language from Trump. Trump and the others at the meeting deny it. Durban has been caught making up similar phony quotes in the past. Democrats will do anything to make Donald look bad; they are obviously desperate, and they can always count on some help from some RINOs.

Mish, you sure attract an interesting crowd. Not sure I've seen anything like it in 15 years of global economic trend analysis.

western democracies have had difficulty integrating muslim immigrants, this country has enough social challenges without putting on that hair shirt too. The Obama admin was in love with sub saharan muslim immigrants, time to try something different. How about a total immigrant freeze for the rest of Trumps term!

Do a comparative survey of living conditions in the countries Trump told the truth about. Sometimes 'The Truth' is not politically correct (no matter how much virtue signalling it generates.)

Turns out to not have been an accurate characterization of what Trump said. Wow. What a shock. NOT.

There are plenty of S@&tHoles in this country. The street in Buffalo, New York I grew up on in the 50s is now a s&%tHole!

Do we see white people on waiting lists to get into non white countries? South Africa, for instance?
