A source close to the NFL has told this media outlet that a majority of the franchise owners are prepared to vote for a plan that would exercise an early termination clause in Roger Goodell’s contract and replace him with an interim commissioner. The surprising choice is said to be Brad Parscale, Digital Director for the Donald J. Trump presidential campaign.
The tension, building over the last decade and coming to a head with the war over Roger Goodell’s contract negotiations, is just one of the outward signs of discontent. Jones and other owners have become increasingly troubled over the way that Goodell has handled many things very, very poorly, and has set up a fat, sloppy system where they will continue to be handled poorly.
Apparently, Parscale will serve on an interim basis while an executive committee searches for a permanent replacement. Our source tells us that the owners would be thrilled to have Parscale lead the league on a long-term basis. However, Parscale has declined the offer and wants to focus on the 2020 presidential campaign and his plan to help build CloudCommerce, an up and coming digital marketing firm.
Neither Jones nor Parscale returned calls to verify this story.
