This lucky family is living in a greenhouse, a project from Rotterdam University. The college wanted to build a home that could grow food while at the same time providing cheap heating and cooling.
Helly Scholten and her family volunteered to live in it. They get fresh produce from their rooftop vegetable garden. There is a pipe buried three feet below the ground that naturally cools and heats the house, so the home uses less energy. Tanks on the roof collect rain water that can be used for irrigation and flushing the toilets.
The lucky family gets to stay there until 2018, but they claim they could never go back to a regular house. Who would want to?!
