Tea Cozy – Two Tone

Our User Craftorama knitted this pattern and sent us a picture of her knitted tea cozy which looks great!.

What you need

2 oz (50 g) Double knitting or 8ply in 1st color
2 oz (50 g) in 2nd color
No. 6 (4.25 mm) Knitting needles



Fits most tea pots


4.5 stitches to 1 inch (2.5cm)

Note: Use double yarn throughout.


FRONT AND BACK (make 2 alike)

With 1 strand of 1 st color and 1 strand of 2nd color, cast on 40 sts. and work 4 rows in garter st. (every row k.) Change to st.st. (1 row k., 1 row p.) and work 6 rows.

These last 10 rows form the pattern which is referred to below.

Keep working in Pattern and cont. until work measures 4.5 inch (11.5cm).

Your next row will depend on where you are in the pattern sequence.

This is the pattern sequence:
Row 1 – Knit
Row 2 – Knit
Row 3 – Knit
Row 4 – Knit
Row 5 – Knit
Row 6 – Purl
Row 7 – Knit
Row 8 – Purl
Row 9 – Knit
Row 10 – Purl

For example , say you were on row 8 when you have reached 4.5 inches (11.5cm) Your next row would be Row 9.

Next row K4, K2 tog to the end (22sts)
Next row P2 tog to the end (11sts)

Next 7 rows continue in pattern sequence.
So you are now back to row 8.

Next row, P2 tog, p1,p2 tog to the end. (8sts)

Knit row.
Next row, p2 tog to end (4sts)

Cast off.


Join 2 pieces by over sewing side and top seams tog. on inside; leave open from beg. of 2nd ridge to end of 3rd ridge on one side for teapot handle and from beg. of 2nd ridge to beg. of 3rd ridge on other side for spout. Make 2 pompoms, one in 1st color and one in 2nd, Sew to top of tea cozy.
