Easter Crochet Pattern: Simpleton the Rabbit

Simpleton the rabbit is a bunny crochet pattern for Easter or just to create a cute kid's toy.

What you need

3 skeins of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick in color wheat for body
small amounts of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick in color fisherman for tail, Red Heart Soft or other medium-weight yarn in green and deep sea for scarf
1 Pair of 16 MM safety eyes in silver (or color of choice)
size 8 (5 mm) crochet hook for body
size 6 (4 mm) crochet hook for scarf

DMC thread in antique white
scissors
polyfill stuffing
yarn needle
gauge is not needed in project but using the hooks listed measures the doll at approx. 9 inches (sitting)

SC-Single Crochet
DC-Double Crochet
INVDEC-Invisible Decrease
DC2TOG-Double Crochet decrease

Special Stitch meaning-
INVDEC-Insert hook into front loops only in the next 2 stitches. YO, pull through 2 loops, YO, pull through final 2 loops on hook. (counts as 1 SC)
DC2TOG-YO, insert hook in FL of the next 2 stitches, pull through 2 loops, YO, pull through 3 final loops on hook.

Bunny is worked in rounds, while the scarf is worked flat

Instructions

Stitching the Head

With main color and 5 mm hook, CH2.

Work 6 SC in second CH from hook. SL ST in chain to join in round. 6 sts.

CH1, work 2 SC in each SC. SL ST in last st to join round. 12 sts.

CH1, *SC in next st, 2 SC in next st. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 18 sts.

CH1, *SC in each of next 2 SC, 2SC in next SC. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 24 sts.

CH1, *SC in each of next 3 SC, 2 SC in next SC. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 30 sts.

CH1, *SC in each of the next 4 SC, 2 SC in next SC. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 36 sts.

Next 9 rounds, SC around and continue to join rounds as established. Begin to stuff head as you work, and place eyes between rows, 7 or 8 stitches apart, toward beginning of this section.

CH1, *SC in each of the next 4 SC, 1 INVDEC (see above for instruction). Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 30 sts.

CH1, *SC in each of the next 3 SC, 1 INVDEC. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 24 sts.

CH1, *SC in each of the next 2 SC, 1 INVDEC. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 18 sts.

Fasten off and finish stuffing head.

Use embroidery floss to form nose and mouth and close up bottom of head. Weave in ends.

Stitching the Body

With main color and 5 mm hook, CH2.

Work 6 SC in second CH from hook. SL ST in chain to join in round. 6 sts.

CH1, work 2 SC in each SC. SL ST in last st to join round. 12 sts.

CH1, *SC in next st, 2 SC in next st. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 18 sts.

CH1, *SC in each of next 2 SC, 2SC in next SC. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 24 sts.

CH1, *SC in each of next 3 SC, 2 SC in next SC. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 30 sts.

CH1, *SC in each of the next 4 SC, 2 SC in next SC. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 36 sts.

Work 6 rounds even. Begin to stuff body as you go.

CH1, *SC in each of the next 4 SC, 1 INVDEC (see above for instruction). Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 30 sts.

CH1, *SC in each of the next 3 SC, 1 INVDEC. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 24 sts.

CH1, *SC in each of the next 2 SC, 1 INVDEC. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 18 sts.

Work 4 rounds even. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Finish stuffing body.

Stitch the Ears (make 2)

Using main color, CH 2.

12 DC in 2nd chain from hook. SL ST in last st to join round.

CH2 (counts as 1 DC), work 2 DC in each DC around. SL ST in last st to join round. 24 sts.

CH2, *DC in each of next 2 DC, 2 DC in each of next 2 DC. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 36 sts.

Work even for 2 rounds.

CH2, *DC in each of next 4 sts, DC2TOG in next st. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 30 sts.

CH2, *DC in each of next 3 sts, DC2TOG in next st. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 24 sts.

Work even for 3 rounds.

CH2, *DC in each of next 2 sts, DC2TOG in next st. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 18 sts.

Work even for 2 rounds.

Work INVDEC around and fasten off to close ear.

Sew ears to head about 4 rounds up from the eyes.

Stitching the Arms (make 2)

With main color and 5 mm hook, CH2.

Work 6 SC in second CH from hook. SL ST in chain to join in round. 6 sts.

CH1, work 2 SC in each SC. SL ST in last st to join round. 12 sts.

CH1, *SC in next st, 2 SC in next st. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 18 sts.

Work 10 rounds even. Begin to stuff at this point.

CH1, *SC in each of the next 4 sts, 1 INVDEC. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 15 sts.

CH1, SC in each stitch. SL ST in last st to join round.

CH1, *SC in each of the next 3 sts, 1 INVDEC. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 12 sts.

CH1, SC in each stitch. SL ST in last st to join round.

Stitching the Legs (make 2)

With main color and 5 mm hook, CH2.

Work 6 SC in second CH from hook. SL ST in chain to join in round. 6 sts.

CH1, *SC in next st, 2 SC in next st. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 18 sts.

Work 10 rounds even. Begin to stuff at this point.

CH1, *SC in each of the next 4 sts, 1 INVDEC. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 15 sts.

CH1, SC in each stitch. SL ST in last st to join round.

CH1, *SC in each of the next 3 sts, 1 INVDEC. Repeat from * around. SL ST in last st to join round. 12 sts.

CH1, SC in each stitch. SL ST in last st to join round.

Work INVDEC around. Finish stuffing and fasten off.

Finishing the Bunny

Sew the head to the top of the body. Sew arms starting close to the neck and sew legs along sides toward back so that bunny can sit up.

Using the Fisherman yarn (or more of same yarn used for body) make a pom pom to use for the tail. Sew onto the back of the bunny so that it can sit without sitting on the tail.

Stitching the Scarf

Using green yarn and 4 mm hook, CH 70.

Turn, CH1, SC in 2nd SC from hook and in each SC.

Repeat this row 3 times.

Fasten off.

With contrasting color, and starting at a corner, SC around. SL ST into first stitch, fasten off.

Weave in ends.
