In the face of a patriarchal structure and discrimination based on gender, the International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated on October 11 to celebrate the potential girls have. The motive is to empower them and highlight the problems faced by girl children.

We are aware that many girls are discouraged and even stopped from pursuing education - many don't have access to proper healthcare and live in severely unsanitary conditions. However, we have listed a bunch of inspiring young women who have defeated all obstacles and come out on top. They have clawed, fought and smashed their way to victory with sheer grit and resolve.

Their victories come in the face of arched eyebrows and the ridiculous belief that women are lesser than men - and the male gender is not the only one that harbours such thoughts. Be it in chess, badminton or law - the following gang of girls have looked the patriarchy in the eye and shot it straight between the eyebrows.
