NDO – In the boys’ U14 category, Hanoi-born player, Ngo Duc Tri, took the top honour with 7.5 points after nine matches.
Tri, 13, won the opening game but then lost the second match. However, he managed to score five successive victories later on, before playing out a draw in the eighth match and claiming the decisive ninth clash for the overall title.
This is the best world-level result ever achieved by Duc Tri, a promising chess player of Hanoi and Vietnam.
With regards to the boys’ U16 category, Nguyen Anh Khoi was crowned champion in an exceptional fashion despite being just the no. 5 seed.
