VIDEO: 'Racist' Waffle House Arrest Video Goes Viral, Then Mayor Releases Truth

Warsaw Mayor AJ Connors said that the police officer "did what he had to do" to apprehend the disruptive man.

Warsaw, NC – The mayor of Warsaw spoke out in defense of a Warsaw police officer on Friday, after a viral video that showed the arrest of a black man drew allegations of racial bias (videos below).

“I can assure you, this is not a racially-motivated situation,” Mayor AJ Connors, who is black, said in a Facebook video. “This was a young man who had broken the law, and a law enforcement officer arrested him. Unfortunately, physical contact took place because he refused to cooperate or follow or obey the law.”

The incident occurred on May 5, after 22-year-old Anthony Wall got into an argument with some individuals inside a Waffle House restaurant, The Washington Post reported.

Wall said he had just finished taking his 16-year-old sister to prom, and that they stopped to grab a bite to eat, according to WTVD.

Wall said he began arguing with employees at the restaurant, and that the workers contacted the Warsaw police.

A brief video clip obtained by WTVD showed Wall and his sister throwing items and screaming at employees.

“This young man was irate, and doing things and threatening employees,” Connors explained. “He became disruptive. He brought on an issue which...called for an arrest.”

Cellphone footage showed Walls as he fought with a Warsaw police officer outside of the Waffle House.

The offer attempted to restrain Wall from behind, and pressed him against the restaurant window.

Wall yelled at the officer, and was able to spin out of his initial grasp. The officer responded by grabbing Wall’s neck, and he shoved the man against the window once again.

“Get your hands off of me!” Wall demanded, as the officer rotated him backwards and onto the ground.

The man landed just off of the curb, but refused to comply with the officer’s directive to place his hands behind his back, the video showed.

“Get your hands off me!” Wall continued to proclaim.

He was subsequently taken into custody, and was medically cleared before he was transported to the jail, Connors said.

Wall was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, WTVD reported.

He claimed that he took full responsibility for his actions inside the restaurant, but argued that the officer’s use of force against him was not justified.

“I was pretty much trying to scream for air and trying to breathe because he was holding my throat and that's when I got aggressive with him because you are choking me," Wall claimed, during an interview with WTVD.

Connors argued that Wall was the one who created the situation, and said the man left the officer with no choice.

“The officer made every effort to secure him, so that the public would be safe,” Connors said in his video statement. “We must understand that this young man had broken the law. He was there, he started a fight, and the officer’s job is to make an arrest if...there’s a reason to. This officer did what he had to do.”

“This is not a racially motivated issue,” the mayor asserted.

“We’re asking you to eliminate the pre-judging, allow the system that is in place to operate and do what it needs to do,” the mayor added. “We ask you to quit calling the police department making threats and calls and tying up the...lines, so the ones that need help are unable to get help as swift as they need.”

In addition to an internal investigation, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is also looking into the incident, the mayor said.

Waffle House also released a statement saying that this was not a racial incident.

“We believe there is more to these stories than the short videos that have been posted might suggest,” the company wrote, according to The Washington Post. “Our review of these incidents do not indicate race was an issue in the decision to call the police in either case. Both incidents escalated quickly, and our employees called the police because of safety concerns for their customers and themselves.”

Activists have called for a boycott of the restaurant over claims of racism.

@Hi_estComnDenomn every police department has fitness standards. Some are more stringent than others. Concerning my muscle weight gain, I never told you how long it took to get to that point. If you're asking, it was about two years of working out with free weights 4 or 5x a week. My department has a gym and I went everyday after or before work. As far as how much of that gain was pure muscle, I can only tell you that the same pants that I wore when I was 155lbs, still fit me when I was 185. I know you keep harping on this subject because you really want me to send you photos of me in my skivvies. Sorry Cheech, I don't play that way. Regarding the article, you were the one bragging about how fit the members of the Navy are. I just simply provided you with reading material to prove you wrong, YET AGAIN! LOL Also, something else to keep in mind. Most people gain weight as they get older. Chances are that will happen to you, that's if the lava in Hawaii doesn't burn you alive on your next trip to that state. Cops make a career out of policing so they will get older and heavier as the years go bye. Most soldiers do not make a career out of the military so they will leave the ranks when they are younger and fitter. Although with today's generation of misfits that may not be the case.

Since you two (LEO and Hi_est) spend so much time together, why not just go ahead and get a room?

@sshad it's not like he hasn't offered but I don't go that way.

You can post all the articles you want, but until you post one about police departments letting people go because they're too fat, you have no argument.

Stick around. You'll see this guy and his merry band of autists comment on everything i say.

H_C Dumbass 7225 and that's the best tag you will get from me.

H_C Dumbass ROTC uniform LOL. That's kinda like the scouts.
Or did the Navy pay for your education? Thought you said they didn't. Or did you lie again?

Yes I put on 25 lb during a cruise. That's why I also gave you my PFT measurements. If you had been in the Navy you should have recognized what they were and what they were for. Dumbass.

I already gave you my rating. Do I need to remind you again? Officers would not have such a short memory. Oh wait, you are a pothead.

Of course the Navy, ie, we, paid for his education. You think he could have gotten it any other way?

@John-Brown Nope. I already asked him if the Navy paid for his education. He said no.

@Hi_estComnDenomn Please, do us all a favor and DIE already.

Anyone who has ever attempted to place handcuffs on a resisting subject will tell you that it's quite simply not all that easy, even if you are considerably stronger than the arrestee. I question why there was only one officer involved. Given the description of the young man's conduct prior to police arrival, this was a situation which would normally demand at least two officers.

Funny how H_C Dumbshit moved along after I answered his questions. By the way, you realize if he claimed ROTC, it would be like admitting to being like a cheerleader. They wear uniforms too. LOL

you see, to get an undergrad ROTC scholarship, you not only have to be physically fit for the military, but you also have to be academically and socially approved, like most scholarships. So yes, the Navy paid for me to go to college because I was smart. How else do you get scholarships?

As far as my MBA, I got that by serving. Thank you, loyal taxpayer. Though I do love how you saying "we paid for it" makes you think you have something over me. I'm smart, and I excel. That's why the entirety of my higher education was paid for.

@Old Hawg that's just another reason cops should be training jiu jitsu. you don't have to be stronger than someone to manipulate joints.

If you were ever in the Navy, you sound like one of those bitter enlistees that stayed mad at officers for getting paid more.

Dah well. Some of us just make better life decisions.

H_C Dumbshit you are too funny . I didn't mind the officers. Some were quite decent. Nice try though.
So let's get back to the additional four years in uniform business. I noticed you are lying one way or the other. You previously stated that you didn't get through college due to the Navy. Can't have it both ways dipshit.

Wait I found HCD's photo in uniform!
