Orlando PD Launches Investigation Over Officer Refusing To Stand For National Anthem

An Orlando Police Officer is under investigation for refusing to stand for the national anthem while he was on duty.

Orlando, FL - An Orlando police officer is under internal investigation after he refused to stand for the national anthem while on duty.

Sources familiar with the internal investigation told reporter Shannon Butler with WFTV that someone complained after the officer sat during the national anthem.

The Orlando Police Department has a policy requiring its officers to stand for the national anthem while on duty, according to WFTV.

The Orlando Police Department declined to release the officer's name, or talk about the investigation, since it is ongoing.

The officer was on duty at recent dragon boat races when he allegedly refused to stand.

A citizen saw the officer sitting down when the national anthem was being sung, asked him to stand, and he declined. He was alleged to have said that he didn't stand in protest.

The sources said that a member of the Orlando Police Department filed the complaint after hearing about the incident.

In its policy, the Orlando Police Department said, “While wearing the uniform of this Department, whether on or off duty and when on duty in civilian attire, members will render the proper respect to the United States Flag. Uniformed members will face, stand at attention and salute the flag."

Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick started the protest by kneeling during the national anthem.

Explaining his protest, Kaepernick said, "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color."

He went on to make anti-police statements and wearing socks which depicted police as pigs.

Our partners at Warrior 12, who print our Blue Lives Matter shirts, have launched a limited edition Stand For The Flag shirt so that you can proudly display that you don't kneel.

Do you think that officers should be able to refuse to stand for the national anthem? We'd like to hear from you. Please let us know in the comments.

I could careless what the race is. This isn't a race issue it's an American issue and every American and person residing in our Great Country should STAND for our FLAG & NATIONAL anthem..........

If they want to protest, do it out of uniform. Cops need to be seen as non-partisan. They are needed to keep peace and not choose sides. Law and logic, not feelings and politics.

If he's not standing for the National Anthem, I see him as possibly being a danger to all of his fellow officers while on duty because he's siding with these football players. A big part of why they are kneeling, is to also protest "police brutality." In fact, there are four football players who are trying to make November a month of protest against the police. In my eyes, there's a chance he might turn against his own Blue Family members on a call. I wouldn't trust him. If he feels THAT strongly about standing, maybe he should turn in his blue uniform and badge for a football uniform and a COLON KEEPURDICK mask.

Terminate his employment then he'll have lots of time to sit during the anthem.

Maybe the chief can tie this in as a violation of the Oath of office.

Damn rookie, some dinosaur should have slapped his head and get his butt up

If it is in their policy and I am sure he had to sign a copy of it then he should be standing. Its policy and you want to keep your job do what you are suppose to do thats it.

Their policy says they have to do it in or out of uniform.

Give him 180 days unpaid to think about his protest. Termination will be fought in the courts forever where as the bleeding hearts will forget about him if he isn't "losing his job".

Didn’t Kaperdick not stand in protect to the treatment of blacks by LEOs? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is this officers protest? Treatment of black officers?
