Parlier, CA - A Parlier Police K9, Indy, who went missing early this morning, Friday, January 6, 2017, has tragically been found dead.

The nine-year-old German Shepherd was working with his handler early this morning when he went missing. The Fresno County Sheriff's Office was called to investigate a report of a Grand Theft involving the Parlier Police Department. Upon arrival, they learned that the theft involved the missing K9.

Fresno Deputies received a call of a dead dog in a field near the Parlier Police Department, in the area of Industrial Drive and Mendocino Avenue. When they responded, they found Indy's body. There was significant trauma to his body.

A reward had been offered for information about Indy's disappearance before he was found dead. It is not clear yet if Indy was stolen or got out of his handler's vehicle. Tony Botti, Fresno County Sheriff's Office spokesman, said “There’s a lot of question marks right now as to what happened."

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office is conducting the ongoing investigation. The Fresno County SO said that it is too early to determine the cause of Indy's death but that he may have been hit by a vehicle. His body has been taken to a vet for further examination.

Parlier Police Officers who worked with Indy said that "he was a loyal partner, very obedient, and had won numerous awards." According to The Fresno Bee, he had served with the Parlier Police Department since February, 2013. Indy's handler was too upset to issue a personal statement but said this through FCSO spokesman Tony Botti: “Indy was my first and only dog. He was a great partner, and he will be sorely missed.” The handler has not been identified.

We send our thoughts and prayers to the Parlier Police Department in the loss of K9 Indy. We thank you, K9 Indy, for your faithful service and dedication to your job.
