Michigan State Police Director Suspended For Posting 'Offensive' Meme

Director Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue was suspended by Gov. Rick Snyder on Thursday for posting an "inappropriate" meme on Facebook.

Lansing, Michigan – Michigan State Police Director Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue was suspended by Gov. Rick Snyder on Thursday for posting an "inappropriate" meme on Facebook.

The meme was posted in response to all of the NFL kneelers, and called them "millionaire ingrates."

Col. Etue immediately apologized as people called for her termination over the meme.

Gov. Snyder released a statement when announcing that Col. Etue would be suspended for five days.

"Colonel Etue posted something on social media that was inappropriate. She immediately apologized and has acted to demonstrate that apology, including facilitating meetings with various groups to hear concerns and to share the work the Michigan State Police does in cities and neighborhoods statewide to connect with the communities they serve and recruit new troopers from all backgrounds," Snyder said in the statement, according to MLive.

"I have full faith in Col. Etue's leadership as the commander of the Michigan State Police, which I believe to be the best law enforcement body in the nation.

"The Colonel has served honorably as an enlisted trooper for 30 years, and I hope we can come together as Michiganders to move forward and find common ground, rather than rehash past mistakes."

Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue initially shared the “We the People” meme on Facebook last month that said athletes that kneel during the national anthem are “millionaire ingrates who hate America and disrespect our armed forces and veterans” and “a bunch of rich, entitled, arrogant, ungrateful, anti-American degenerates,” according to the Detroit Free Press.

That meme states:

Dear NFL:
We will not support millionaire ingrates who hate America and disrespect our Armed Forces and Veterans. Who wins a football game has ZERO impact on our lives. Who fights for and defends our nation has EVERY impact on our lives. We stand with the Heroes, not a bunch of rich, entitled, arrogant, ungrateful, anti-American degenerates.
Signed, We The People

Col. Etue posted her apology on the Michigan State Police’s Facebook page.

“It was a mistake to share this message on Facebook and I sincerely apologize to anyone who was offended,” she wrote. “I will continue my focus on unity at the Michigan State Police and in communities across Michigan.”

Col. Etue’s post was criticized by the ACLU for exercising her free speech.

"It is the sworn duty of the State Police Director to uphold the Constitution which protects all people in this State and to demonstrate respect for those principles," said Kary Moss, executive director of the ACLU of Michigan, on her Facebook wall.

"She undermines her own position and the trust of the community with these remarks and utter disregard of the people she represents."

And organization called The Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality called for Col. Etue to be fired, according to the Detroit Free Press.

"Etue's words simply reflect the continued racist actions of the Michigan State Police, both in how they treat our citizens and in how their hiring demographics fail to even approach equity," coalition spokesman Kenneth Reed said in a news release.

Lol Racist? No one is saying she is racist. The post comment was not about race!! Lol Get over yourself and stop being a victim!!

She is entitled to her opinion and only a "racist" would think she was referring to a "color". I agree with her completely and I am not a racist by any standard. I am sick of people using the racist card for everybody that doesn't have the same opinion as them and why is it that only "white" people are racist.

Kristie is well known by her peers and the State Police really are not going to put her head on the chopping block for speaking her mind. When did it become wrong to exercise your freedom of speech? The haters are always posting things like F---k the Police and protesting over who knows what while chanting- what do we want - dead cops- Do you see any of them losing their jobs or being disciplined? It seems only the real racists are the ones that can write or say anything with no consequences. This suspension was done just to quiet the masses. Now can we please move on?

Excuse me, you are not able to question anyone's free speech... how dare you say stuff like that. Surely I am not the only one who sees how ironic the ACLU's position is... she wasn't questioning anyone's rights, but disagreeing with what they said with those rights. Surely they would hold the exact same position, and throw a fit had she spoke out against racists using black slurs or Nazis spouting their nonsense..

I fail to see how anything she said was racist... Perhaps the true racists are the ones who took what she said and thought she was referring to a particular race...

Nothing she said was racist.
However, she is duty bound by departmental policy, what she can and can't post on social media.
She violated the policy, and that's that. Her suspension is already over, so tough rocks, time for everyone to get back to work.

The silent majority in this country are growing weary of being called racist every time we voice an opinion. Beware when those who are being beat down by the libs finally rise up.

I like it. PCness is the problem not the truth.

I'm so sick of the race card being used in references to things like this. The word is so overused, it's cliche and loses it's effect for REAL racism. In regards to what Col Etue did, only a racist would find racism in the truth and try to twist it. Those who scream "racism" over every little thing these days use the term with a broad brush as a political tool to silence those who oppose them. If the Col was not posting while on duty and didn't represent herself as law enforcement in the post, why should anyone from her department (or otherwise) have the right to infringe on her free speech? Why should she have to apologize for speaking her mind, (and in my opinion, telling the truth)? The ACLU, the Kneeling NFLers and the BLM all stereotype law enforcement as racists, which is absurd. When we have to habitually bow down to the God of Political Correctness, our nation will suffer the consequences. To Col. Etue, I would say, "Those of us with common sense have your back."

No wonder that cops have their own parties, occasions, etc. All in fun and no stupid put downs for idiots to twist.
