Mail Bomb Detonates At Officer's House, Explosion Sends Female To Hosp

A U.S. Postal Inspector announced that a package delivered to the police officer's home exploded.

Alameda, CA - A package exploded on Friday at an Alameda home that neighbors said belongs to a police officer.

The package was delivered to the home in the afternoon by the U.S. Postal Service (USPS).

A woman living in the house was injured in the blast, and taken to the hospital. Police said she is expected to recover, according to KGO-TV.

The incident occurred on Nov. 24, at a home on Lilac Street on Bay Farm Island.

Several neighbors confirmed that the man who owns the home is a police officer.

"I think he works around Alameda. He's very nice," neighbor Maricar Rodriguez told KGO-TV.

Neighbors told police they did not hear the actual explosion.

USPS Inspector Jeff Fitch told The Sacramento Bee that the postal service delivered the package in the mid-to-late afternoon, and “it did detonate."

No details were released about the name of the woman hurt in the detonation, or the nature of her injuries.

Neighbor Wahid Kohgadai told KGO-TV that police asked him if they had any surveillance cameras, but they did not. It was not known if any other neighbors had security cameras.

The contents of the package that exploded have been sent to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) in Washington, D.C., for further investigation.

Inspector Fitch said the Alameda Police Department, the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, postal inspectors, and the ATF are conducting the investigation, Inspector Fitch said. The crime of sending an explosive device via mail is a federal offense, he said.

He would not comment on whether police have a suspect, or where the package originated.

Police would not release the exact delivery location of the package, according to KTVU.

The Postal Inspection Service told KTVU it is staying tight-lipped about the incident during the investigation.

My prayer to the injured lady for a speedy recovery. My prayer for the bad guy, is, I hope you reap what you have sown. It's hard to keep a forgiving heart when heartless people do horrible things
