LATEST: Here's What We Know About Assassination Of Two Deputies Eating Lunch

Two Gilchrist County deputies were murdered as they ate lunch in a Chinese restaurant on Thursday afternoon.

Trenton, FL – Two Gilchrist County sheriff’s deputies were murdered as shared a meal in a Chinese restaurant in Trenton on Thursday afternoon.

Police said that Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Sergeant Noel Ramirez and Gilchrist County Deputy Sheriff Taylor Lindsey were eating lunch at about 3 p.m. on April 19.

It was initially reported that the suspect shot the deputies through the restaurant window, but investigators now say that John Hubert Highnote walked into the Ace China restaurant and fatally shot both deputies from inside, CNN reported.

Both deputies died at the scene, police said.

After he murdered the deputies in cold blood, Highnote returned to his vehicle where police believe he shot himself, authorities said.

He was found deceased in his vehicle by deputies who responded to the scene, FOX News reported.

Police have not found a motive for the senseless murders, but Gilchrist County Sheriff Bobby Schultz blamed the anti-police hatred that has raged across the United States.

"What do you expect happens when you demonize law enforcement to the extent it's been demonized? Every type of hate, every type of put-down you can think of," Sheriff Schultz asked at a press conference on Thursday.

Florida State’s Attorney Bill Cervone said that we may never know the motive.

"It appears he just walked up and shot them, then went to his car and shot himself. It's inexplicable," Cervone said. "People will want to know why, and we may never have an answer for them."

Highnote, 59, was a resident of nearby Bell in Gilchrist County, who police said at Friday’s press conference had not had any prior interaction with the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office. He lived about 10 miles from the Ace China restaurant, The New York Times reported.

His only offense in the Gilchrist County records was a traffic ticket for an improper turn in 2012, Heavy reported.

Trenton, the seat of rural Gilchrist County, is located about two hours southwest of Jacksonville, according to FOX News.

The sheriff described Sgt. Ramirez and Deputy Lindsey as “the best of the best."

"They were men of integrity, men of loyalty. They were God-fearing, and they loved what they did, and we are very proud of them,” he said.

"They don't need to be remembered strictly for their untimely death but they need to be remembered for the type of people that they are. And that's good individuals, good deputy sheriffs,” the sheriff said.

Sheriff Schultz called Highnote a "coward," and said “the only thing these men were guilty of is wanting to protect you and me. They just wanted to get something to eat, and they just wanted to do their job.”

The sheriff said he knew both men personally and that he “loved them.”

Florida Governor Rick Scott and Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi issued statements of condolence to Gilchrist County. President Donald Trump tweeted his condolences about the deputies.

Sgt. Ramirez, 29, had been with the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office for seven years, and was survived by a wife and two small children.

Deputy Lindsey, 25, was a two-year veteran of the sheriff’s department. He was unmarried but had a girlfriend, according to The New York Times.

“We haven’t been through anything quite like this before, but what makes our county unique is that we’re a family,” Sheriff Shultz said during the Thursday press conference. “We’re going to grieve. We’re going to get upset. We’re probably going to cuss a little bit. But at the end of the day, we’re going to remember those two men for who they are. They’re heroes.”

@Hi_estComnDenomn what is obvious to most people is that Obama fostered a culture of anti-police sentiment. His legacy lives on with all the police officers shot and killed for simply dong their job. Look back through Obama's history as president. From the beer summit fiasco to the Michael Brown shooting you will find example after example of his hatred for American Law Enforcement. Then, of course, pictures of him that recently surfaced hugging on that A-hole from the Nation of Islam. That is an example of Obama's true colors. History will show that Obama was one of the most corrupt presidents ever.

@LEO0301
This whole comment is opinion based feeling. And no he didn't foster anti-police statement.

The opinion I expressed is shared by many, many people. Actions speak louder than words. I noticed you didn't address the fact Obama was associating with Louis Farrakhan prior to the election and that the photographer that took the pictures of the two of them holding hands wasn't published because Obama didn't want the public to know about his racist friends.

"What do you expect happens when you demonize law enforcement to the extent it's been demonized? Every type of hate, every type of put-down you can think of," Sheriff Schultz asked at a press conference on Thursday. Barack and the BLM can be thanked for that

@LEO0301
I'll repeat this again, snowflake. If you don't like my comments, then YOU leave. Or hire someone to build you an exclusive police website with a paywall. That way, you can guarantee i won't be back.

Speaking of paywall websites, i can do that for you. $50 an hour and i can have it up for you by the end of May.

The only one I suggested should find another place to go was @Burgers Allday. Don't tell me you opened another profile, Cheech?! You seem so sensitive lately - don't tell me you're on your period again?

When do you plan to address Obama associating with Louis Farrakhan? Do you think if you pretend it didn't happen that it will go away?

@LEO0301
What's wrong with Minister Farrakhan? I've met him, he is one of the smartest, good-energy people I've ever met in person.

I'm not surprised you would like a man like him. This just reinforces my belief you're a racist as well. Here is a mind blowing comment from the man you think is smart "The Jews don’t like Farrakhan, so they call me Hitler. Well, that’s a good name. Hitler was a very great man." -- Louis Farrakhan in 1984." I've got many more where that one came from.

Pres. Obama did not start the anti-police sentiment. That came because of video cameras on smart phones. The public can now see what has been happening for decades and more. The police have been using excessive force and killing People of Color, but we only had the cop's side of the story, which is usually full of lies., like planting weapons, etc. NOW, we have video of the actual events and the whole world can see what actually happens. So don't go blaming a Black President , (whom you hate because you are racist). That's a lame excuse. The anti-police sentiment is because the public now sees with their own eyes what you Blues have been doing and have gotten away with for so long. It's actually fairly basic and obvious to anyone not poisoned with bias.

Do you know that black on black is higher than 64% and that noone addresses that, where are the BLM protesting that? As far as cameras, please you get the half ass side of story, just like the media.People are abusing the racist card and its out of control.So the criminals can get away with what they want then, the people who threaten with a gun and say they can murder or shoot up a place, that's ok, because its racist to say anything if the person doing it is black,LORD help up!!

@LEO0301
Humans are fallible. You're christian, right? You should know that, accept that, and seek deeper meaning behind problematic shit that people say.

And if none of that works, you always have THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.

I never said you were condemning police. What I said was you were essentially advocating violence on police by saying that putting your hand around the throat of one, along with having an accomplice restrain his other hand, wasn't assault, "merely redirection". On top of that you were nonchalant about two innocent officers being murdered in cold blood. Those comments alone voice your opinons about officers. And I've already wasted enough time replying to you. It's become boring at this point, and I've allowed you to take me off tanget. Instead of commenting on the actual issues, I've fell for your trolling and went off topic to deal with you. That's my fault for feeding the troll, who is also an ass.

If you're still talking about Louis Farrakhan, you are out of your ever loving mind to try to trivialize the things that man says. It has nothing to do with Christianity. I can be a God fearing man and not like someone. I'll leave it to God to decide what to do with someone like Farrakhan on judgement day.

Most of these videos don't tell the whole story. If you only start to record when the officer(s) are attempting to take someone into custody, you don't know what led up to that decision. In addition, police work can be dirty. A fight with a citizen will never look good to the uninformed like yourself. You have to use the necessary force to make the arrest. If you don't want to be hit or whatever, then comply with the officer and you will have zero problems. If you don't think Obama set back race and police relations in this country, you are living in a friggen dream world. All you have to do is look at the Michele Brown case. Obama sent THREE white house reps to the funeral of a man who committed a robbery and attempted to kill a police officer. That's not just me say that, the DOJ and FBI investigated that shooting and they all agreed the officer didn't do anything wrong. Yet, Obama played the race card and accused the police department of being overly militarized because they had the audacity to provide equipment to the officers to protect them from bottles, rocks, the occasional gun fire, etc. Get off your f*cking high horse and open your eyes to the truth.

@LEO0301
Please tag me. I normally don't look down this far.

No one said you had to like everyone because you're Christian. But because you are Christian, you should be actively seeking forgiveness for everyone. Do that.

I have no plans to forgive a racist like your buddy Louie just like I don't forgive Hitler for his sins. Like I said, I'll leave that to God.

@LEO0301
It's not like i didn't know this already Skip, but you're a terrible Christian.

How would you know, you're an atheist.

@LEO0301
I'm not atheist, I'm agnostic. There may or may not be a god or gods, no one knows, as much as everyone thinks they know.

And I grew up in the church, and taught kids' Sunday school for a few years in my teens, and read the bible cover to cover a few times by the time i was 18. That's probably why I realized the Christian God is a petty asshole. His son Jesus was pretty dope though.

Also, I always questioned why Christians were even a thing. If you're a follower of Jesus, and Jesus was a rabbi, shouldn't you be Jewish? I never cared to pursue that thought further though.
